Can you expand on that point Anthony - i.e what is that they have that other's do not have(my assumption)

bamboo chairs,
normal prices,
no bill padding,
free pool table,
free popcorn,
music at a decent volume,
pleasant waitress service, ( corner bar even had a little bell on the table),
staff that will fetch food for us,
the host/owner taking the time to greet the table and sit for a while,
the host/owner getting to know our names.
the host/owner sending over the occasional free nightcap,
the staff happy to sit in our company without the leg rubbing drink scrounging,
a goodbye when you leave.

just a bar really,
as opposed to a brothel that sells drinks.

why is it non of the lb bars quite have what sally bar and the corner bar have.?

Because they are not the same style of operation. Correct me if I wrong but neither Sally's or Corners have ST rooms?

I suspect that both the bars you mention see selling cheap drinks as their primary source of revenue. They have few hostess staff and very low overheads. Both are in cheap rent locations and that model works for them. I would suspect that neither of these bars makes in profit in a month, what the larger places make in a couple of nights. It is just a different model appealing to different people at different times. Lets face it, your not going to want to drink 24/7 in a gogo bar - they know that and price accordingly - you go into a gogo bar to look at lots of sexily clad/naked girls strutting their stuff and pay accordingly for the experience.

However what I am amazed at is that nobody has been a success in developing a more hi end better experience bar in Pattaya, however I suspect its more to do with ROI than anything else - simply not enough people in Pattaya year round to make it work, so it ends up as either a clip joint or a low cost bar.

Your making a rather big assumption there - I can think of 10 foreign guys straight off whom I know very well, live & work in Thailand and will be earning at least 500,000b a month. None of them to the best of my knowledge choose to be 'flash' but they would not think twice about paying gogo drink prices and barfines. Albeit, they are never going to be barfining the same girl for 30 nights in a row.

I would hazzard a guess that those are the customers most bar operators seek to get and keep.

Thats for the 2 week holiday guy as it wont make a huge difference in his holidaybudget.
I could think of 10 guys, even on here, that stay long time or live in Thailand, that woudln´t pay BF x 14 days, like a guy on a short holiday would have no problem with

I absolutely agree with that Anthony, and when you find somewhere that takes care of you properly, its surely not unreasonable to pay their barfine (when you want one of their girls, of course!) and to actually "give a fuck" ?

Maybe one more point, no one give you attitude if you only want have a beer , chat with a few frends w/o the obligation to barfine.

In all seriousness, I know the reason why the model for a decent place won't work in Pattaya and its simple. Not enough people are willing to pay barfines and they try and circumnavigate them. i.e they go in look at the eye candy, buy one drink and try and set up their little side deal with the girl/LB. That is why bars with hostess staff have to be so attuned with this and why little bars don't give a flying f**k about it as invariably they know the whereabouts of their (few) staff at any given point and can spot these punters a mile off.

I see a freelance LB venue being the next thing someone tries in Pattaya but the headache will be all the Yaba addicts trying to monopolise it and make their own little mafia kingdom - akin to what has part caused the downfall of JSB. In the meantime, the poor mug operator has to find 100,000b + rent per month from selling drinks with a 30b margin.
