No trip to Chiang Mai would be complete without a trip to Doi Suthep. Shame is was a murky day, but the air up there is not the best.

About 15km from the City centre of Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep is the highest Wat in the Kingdom.

Some 1676 metres above the city of Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep is one of the most revered religious destinations in Thailand due to it's elevation over all others in the country.

what your cam lacked in screen res the sound sure packs a punch. Great stereo range on the passing traffic.

Chiang Mai was cool, wish I'd seen a bit more of it.

Chiang Mai was cool, wish I'd seen a bit more of it.

Me too, I have fond memories of the place but have never managed to return, as yet. One day, I hope 2%20Cool.gif

Koh Samui
After Chiang Mai I headed back to Bangkok briefly and then, like Richard from The Beach (but before him), took the train-bus-ferry combo south to Koh Samui. From Bangkok's main railways station, Hua Lamphong, south to Surat Thani, then a bus to the ferry port and over to the Island.

I rented a white Suzuki jeep for several days while I was there so I could see the whole Island.

The opening scene in the clip is from our hut somewhere between Chaweng and Lamai beaches, I forget the name now. Followed by slow progress up Chaweng High Street, then towards the end of the clip are the Grandfather (Hin Ta) and Grandmother (Hin Yai) rocks found at Lamai Beach.

The clip ends with views of the Overlap Stone, where I climbed to the top only to find a hand-written sign saying "today clod"( today closed).

I've never forgotten that sign  ... but why not put it at the bottom, not at the top!?! 9%20Baby%202.gif

I've forgotten which beaches these pics were taken at now, if they look familiar to you please tell 2%20Cool.gif

Koh Samui, I liked it. But the nightlife at the time was fairly limited and mostly centered around Chaweng with Lamai coming in a more peaceful and relaxed second.

After a week or so on Koh Samui it was back to Bangkok, via Phuket, but just for a couple of nights. A direct flight from Samui to Bangkok cost the same as via Phuket, so why not. I'd be back to Phuket again soon.

A very short clip of Koh Samui Airport's departure terminal.

NEP felt more crowded before the central bars were removed from the ground floor.
