Here is a link to Kodak's page, where they give some useful tips on taking photos in many common situations.

Hi BB. I've just spent a little time downloading & playing with the FastStone Image Viewer program you recommended. It's great! Very intuitive & easy to use. Here's a few examples of some shots I took of a temple complex in BKK with the before & after editing shots.

These were only using the image Rotate and/or Crop Board tools. I haven't tried the Shapen/Blur and the Enhance Colors tools yet, but that's next for some other shots that might benefit.

Good stuff Mike. Yes it's a pretty straight forward editing tool for getting the photo results you actually want. In the Enhance Colors I often move the contrast up to +6 in Contrast, and move the Brightness down to - 2 or so for bar photos. Also Sharpen to +3 with my Canon as it tends to take soft photos.

The "Hold Down and See Original Image Button" is pretty useful when you are editing in this section. Best is to play around with it and see the results you get. For the black and white photos I used the Grayscale function along with the Enhance Colors function.

In Rotate you can use "Other" to level horizons and other horizontal surfaces.

Here is a good article to help you get the most out of you camera, rather that rely on the Auto Mode all the time.

Just another article that covers a lot of what has been mentioned here already. It's interesting to still see photos being posted and it is obvious the BM has not read this thread. I just presumed any guy who has the slightest interest in taking photos of their time in Los would have read it by now :argh: :D

Great topic, simple but good advice to BM's from BB.
As a hobbyist, I could not explain it better, a few simple things to keep in mind when taking pics and the quality of those pics goes up with 500 %.
I have a Canon DSLR and a Panasonic Bridge Camera. I never take the DSLR with me on holidays (to be honest, I never used it anymore after I bought my Bridge), the Bridge does perfectly the same things, and I don't have to change lenses anymore.

Thanks for your contribution SM. Here is a good article from Ken Rockwell, explaining how it is the person, not the camera that takes the photos. It points out what you have said, it's knowing what you are doing rather than having a flashy camera that makes a great photo.
