Most of Europe is experiencing a pretty nasty cold spell just now. But with the unexpected snow fall for November it is a great opportunity to take some nice photos. My first winter at home for 6 years, so gonna make the most of it. You will notice how I applied some of the photography tips in some of these shots....I hope. 8)

Excellent choice Batman. I hope you will post many photos from C&D once you are there. I suggest you to buy also the Canon Speedlite 430 EX II flash for it, since the camera has only a built-in flash with GN 13, what is unsufficient for the bar.

looking in the mirror...i should have bought the 430 :butterfly: even that the 270 does a nice job,i see some of the pics are a bit dark... :tantrum:
but also the bar is sometimes a bit difficult to takes pictures in,but iwe learned now what angles are best now  at least i tell myself i can see improvements in the last couples of downloads from the camera... :butterfly:

Hi Batman.

The built-in flash in Canon 550D has a GN of 13. This is not enough for a good photography. However, do not get too close to the photographed object, since then the camera automatically flashes with less power. Use your zoom instead.

The other problem in C&D are the mirrors. In fact, they are a nightmare for a photographer. If a mirror sends back your flash, the CMOS chip in your camera just assumes that the photographed object reflects enough light and cuts the flash too early. hence the dark pictures.

If you mean the background looks a bit dark and you can only see the girls(s) it's not the flash as such. The problem is the shutter is only open for 1/60 of a second from what I can see, and so not long enough for more light to reach the sensor and light up the background also. You need a slower shutter speed to allow more light in.

Maybe try the night portrait mode if you have not used it already. It will be on the dial, a head with a star behind it.
