Similar story Pete. I went to the Bkk camera show about 8 days ago with the intention of buying a Sony A55 kit. I walked out with an Olympus Pen, macro and zoom lenses + olympus flash unit.

Now the only weak link in my photography is the fool holding the camera.

Well the thread below this one should sort that out Putytat, have fun with your new toy. :pic:

Cl,

Olympus Zuiko 17mm 1:2.8 & Zuiko 40 - 150mm 1:4-5.6. Fixed lens is something I have not played with for a long time. Interesting and I am glad I made that choice instead of the smaller zoom lens.

Flash unit is Olympus FS-FL36R which integrates fully with the Pen's functionality. It is a compact unit which is the main reason I bought it over a full SLR. I am seriously considering getting a purpose built bag made in Pattaya so that it can be a portable as possible, and therefore I will use it more.

As I said earlier, the issue now will the user. Hopefully I will be up to speed sooner than later.

The 17mm 1.2 fixed focal is perfect for portraits, seriously nice lens. Have a look at the sticky tread below this one, posted link to morgue files class rooms, looking forward to see how it performs... Cheers

I now need to replace my stolen camera.

I have looked at the Canon S92 which has the same sensor as the G12.

Any opinions on these 2 models S92/G12?
Any alternatives.

I do not want a camera as big as an SLR and the G12 is about as large as I would want.

Grateful for any of the expert advice here as many of you take excellent photos.

Here you go Rossco. This is part of a review of the G12 and half way down the page it compares it to the S95. :pic:

S95 is the most pocketable alternative right now. See:

But, before you make up your mind you should also consider this one that seems a tad better overall for a slight increase in size compared to the S95:

Biggest issue with the XZ-1 (for me) would be the lens cap.

Thanks to all the guys for the advice/tips etc.

I decided on the Fuji F300 EXR.

Basically I decided I really wanted a pocket camera - not a mid size (G12) nor a Bridge camera. If the camera is too big, for my trouser pocket, it will discourage me from using it.

I am not an enthusiast of photography but do like to record special moments so some miserable, low life, thieving bastard can enjoy them when they steal my PC and Camera......

The Fuji had great reviews on the web sites - the picture quality is good and the 15x optical zoom is outstanding.

It suits me as it is, in EXR mode, a straightforward 'point and shoot'. There are user defined options which extends its creativity - I just need to read the user manual.

Out of interest the G12 was 18,000 baht but the Fuji was 11,990 including 4Gb card and Fuji case.

The Fuji has great features, size and handling as you said Rossco, but good image quality ?!?! I do love the F31fd but that was the last compact I think Fuji made with reasonably good image quality (due to a slightly larger sensor than in most compacts) but that was years ago...

I'm sure you will be happy with your camera (as you said, the most important thing is that pictures get taken!), so don't bother to read these comments :)
