Welcome back to the PI Macman! It's probably just how you left it only a bit hotter and a bit wetter. The climate. Obviously.
Looking forward to your next post when your head is still going to be slightly in the US with all that entails but your heart and body are physically going to be here with all that entails. It's not just the time difference that takes adjusting too....
Cheers.

Thanks, D&C. God, it really is hot, isn't it? There was a cold wave in New York while I was there, so it really hit me when I got back here. My head is completely back here now, but I must admit, if it weren't for Angel, I'd be heading back to the USA without hesitation. I guess I'm pretty much a spoiled yank, and I miss the conveniences. Angel makes it all worth while though.

Hi Macman
You have gone a bit quiet. Hope all is well there in the rain and wind?!
Cheers.

Hey, D&C. You're right. I have been very quiet. I keep meaning to post, but somehow never get around to it. One of the reasons was that I had a bout of intestinal something-or-other about 2 weeks after I got here, and it lasted about a month. Nothing serious (except for 1 day), but a pain in the ass, so to speak.
You're also right about the weather. We haven't had any serious problems here. I actually kind of welcome the cooler weather. The cloudy days and strong winds feel like a blessing to me.
The relationship just keeps chugging along. Angel is one of the best things that ever happened to me. In October, I'm going back to the U.S. for 2 weeks, and my older son is coming back with me for a 3-week visit here in the P.I. Angel and I are looking forward to it. They've spoken on the phone and via Skype a few times.

Good to hear that all is ok Mac. And pleased to hear that the relationship is strong as ever. Gastro-intestinal issues seem to be an occassional occupational hazard throughout these fair islands..
Windy and wet here in MNL too and no bad thing. It's nice to have a change from the blisteringly hot days of June and early July. The rain washes away all the dust and grime, freshens the place up a bit, brings colour back to the trees and grass, and new plants are shooting up. Lovely.
Cheers D&C.

The slogan that is used here to try and promote tourism is, "It's more fun in The Philippines." While that may (although probably not) be true for visiting, it sure doesn't apply to living here, at least not in the town where I reside. It could be, "It's no fun in The Philippines," but I would opt for, "You can't make this stuff up." Let me tell you about my last 2 days.
Yesterday, around 9:00 AM, I went down to Dunkin Donuts. While this is a rather small town, we actually have four stores, although one is just a small takeout joint with no arrangements for sitting. I went to the main one. There was a pitiful array of stale doughnuts, so I left there, and walked to another store. There they had a slightly better variety, but I was informed that they had no coffee because the water hadn't arrived. This is the fourth time I've been told that I couldn't get coffee at DD. Not only does the "Dunkin" in their name derive from the desire of some to dunk the doughnuts in the coffee, but their logo shows a steaming cup of java. DD without coffee is like Pattaya without sex. I walked to the third store, and was able to enjoy my little snack.
The above is just silly little stuff, but today was a pip. First we went to the post office. On August 2nd, I went there to mail a small package to my younger son. At that time, I asked about my mailing options, of which there were two. The first option cost PHP 1,500 (about US $36), and the second was PHP 2,619 (US $63). I said I wanted the cheaper one, but the clerk said, "Do you realize that the cheaper one will take 3 weeks, maybe even one month?" I asked how long the other way would be, and was told that it would be one week. Today marked the 3-week anniversary of the mailing, and it still hasn't been delivered. At the P.O., I produced my receipt, together with its tracking number. Here's the result of the tracking: left here August 2nd, arrived in Manilla August 13th. Put in a mailbag in Manilla that same day, August 13th. There are no other notations, so it is assumed that it's still there. So - 11 days to go about 600 kilometers, and 10 days to rest. Only about 14,000 km to go, if it ever goes. Nothing could be checked further because the postmaster of the town is at a seminar. Come back tomorrow.
Right down the street is the Land Transportation Office. Angel went there about 10 weeks ago to have our car registered under my name (long, stupid story why it isn't already that way). When we didn't hear anything for 6 weeks, we went back to check. "Oh, we need a copy of the bill of sale." Why the hell didn't they ask ... Okay, here's a copy. Another 4 weeks go by. Nothing so far. Asked today - not back from Manila yet. "When do you think ...?" "Don't know. Check back again sometime."
And now, the piece de resistance. At our local theatre, the movie changes every Thursday. The next attraction is always announced one week in advance. We've been waiting for this one; "The Bourne Legacy." Usually the shows are Noon, 2:00 PM, 4:00 Pm, 6:00 PM and 8:00, unless it's an unusually long movie. we went down there at 2:15 to buy our tickets for the 4:00 showing. "Sorry. We don't know what time the showing will be because the movie hasn't arrived yet."

Life in the fast lane Mac. But, the no coffee thing would really piss me off. I need my coffee in the morning. Especially when I've made a trip to a coffee shop just for that reason.
