Fuck me. It's 6:30 PM and the friggin' karaoke is coming from the same place again. The guy is now singing, "The Twelve Days of Christmas". They started selling artificial Christmas trees here September 1st. Angel says Christmas lights usually go up October 1st. Well, one thing I know for sure. It ain't gonna be a white Christmas around here. Damn karaoke.

I have a good pair of earplugs, Petesie. They're too good though. I'm afraid to use them when I have to get up for golf for fear of missing the alarm. I used them last night, and got a great night's sleep.
Anthony, I think I may have to use mental earplugs where your last suggestion is concerned.

I've made a couple of moves over here of which I'm proud. The latest may have been my best. Angel was really excited about the car, and wanted me to teach her. It's a manual transmission, and she has never driven any vehicle, automatic or stick. She feels that she's ready because she beat me on an arcade driving game, which had a 2-gear contraption with no clutch. The smart move I made was in refusing to teach her myself. I tried to teach my ex-wife many years ago, and learned a valuable lesson. I took Angel to the motor vehicle office for her learner's permit, and we signed up for a driving school. It's not very expensive; PHP 4,800 (about US $110) for 1 hour of classroom instruction, and 9 hours of driving lessons. She went yesterday for her first set of lessons, and she did really well. She had no problem shifting at all. The instructor let her drive all the way home in traffic from the practice area. The only problem she's having is backing up, probably because you don't do that in arcade games.
After dinner, she said, "Let's go for a practice drive." I told her that she had to finish her lessons before she could drive our Honda, which she'll do by tomorrow. I also pointed out that it was too damn dangerous for her to drive in the dark after just a few hours of lessons. For one thing, the heavily-tinted windows make it really difficult to see at night, especially if you're not familiar with the roads.
Anyway, she's thrilled, and I'm relieved.

Viking, she just got back from her lesson (she now has 6 hours of driving), and immediately started begging me to go out with her in the CRV. She said the guy told her that she should familiarize herself with the gears on our vehicle. I held firm; she has to wait until she finishes her instruction, which is tomorrow. The guy had her driving downtown today, which really surprised me. It's so friggin' hectic there with the trikes, motorbikes and suicidal-seeming pedestrians. It didn't faze her a bit. After tomorrow, there will be no stopping her, and I won't have any more excuses.

macman,
i hope you can still close a good car insurance package before tomorrow ....
PS: only kidding ... but may be say to her that she can only drive when you are both together ....
Doesn't she need a driver license permit in PI ??? In western world is someone that drives without a valid driver license uninsured ... you may have another argument to keep her away for some time ...
