Until there is proper farang management, I would say 1) Lots & 2) Plenty.
And there's the rub because while the BiB monitor the entire hotel complex 24 hours a day, the owner can never set foot into his own bar. I know Riga the manager is unpopular but she does her best to stop this bullshit & the girls do respect her. But even with her power to sack them, the staff never stop trying. Once they see a bunch of farangs affected by alcohol, they smell money.
I haven't commented about Doveface's experience or that of Kanin a few pages back because there comes a point where you can't defend the indefensible. I read all the comments, some I found funny, others sad.
What I will say is that this thread is being read by the owner & he is just as upset as any of us. He knows the problem but he doesn't have an answer. His staff are the only bar staff in Pattaya that have food & accommodation supplied & who get paid a retainer on top of their commissions. (As far as I know, this is the case.) Yet, despite the owner's largesse where he pays their medical bills, lends them money for trips home or family emergencies, the girls always want more.
I don't offer any of this as an excuse but compare the way the Penthouse is run compared to Obsessions. I have never been in a more organised hotel where everything that can be done, is. I know my friend Pentire had a complaint years ago but that was then. If he were to come back, I think he would be surprised at the difference.
I am not holding my breath for that day to arrive but I make the point that there is a single door between the Penthouse & Obsessions. It may as well be a gap the size of the Pacific Ocean for all the difference you will find between one side & the other.

Do we want to know why? Do we want to look at the root cause? Shall we step back in time to when they were children?
What did they do every day at 8.00 am? They stood in the fucking school playground singing the national anthem which is also played on the TV at certain times of the day. When you go to the cinema, just before the movie starts, everybody including you and I stand when the national anthem is played. This is a Buddhist country and many people go to the temples on a regular basis to pray and seek out advice from Buddhist monks. Family elders also automatically receive respect. This is how the people of Thailand are taught from a very early age. This is part of their culture.
Now this is fucking important so please take a second to digest it. ‘They are never taught, at any stage during their education and adult life, to be respectful to foreigners.’
So what are the girls and boys in the bars going to do when money starts flying around? Don’t you think they might be tempted to take a little bit extra for themselves. Do they give a damn about the people they’re taking it from? Do they give a damn about the people paying their wages when they’re taking it? Both answers are quite simple. They don’t give a damn. We, us forum members, do so we boot up our computers and write about it. But they don’t give a damn because this is their culture, their country and the more we write the more they will steal from us and laugh at us. It’s up to us to control this. We have to control our hard earned money and be on our guard all the fucking time. Thailand is not a comfort zone for us. The Thais will screw us at every opportunity with a smile on their face.

However, "IT'S UP TO US TO CONTROL IT" is a great soundbite but would anyone care to explain to me exactly how we are meant to do that. I know in the bar, I can manage most things that might happen, but what about someone on their first trip?
And how do any of us cope when an argument gets broken down to "farang versus all of Thailand". It's only the girls who understand the power of good customer relations who will step in & side with the farang against any of her countrymen. Most of them won't buy into it. And in the bar scene, they also know they run the risk of payback later. Girls attacking other girls because they have cost them money is far more prevalent than anything we ever get to read about.
I'm afraid Sammy that the argument has been lost on this forum for now. So many guys have gone public with their feelings against the place, it's best that Chase keeps posting pictures & we all hope that a solution can be found.
One day, the mood may change but the less said at the moment, the better. I like the hotel & I like the bar but nothing anyone says can alter the toxic feeling that this thread has generated. A pity really, there's some first class talent inside Obsessions, they are the ones I feel sorry for. They just seem to have no comprehension that the bad behaviour by some of them is costing everybody their livelihood.

If they understand anything about Buddhism it is that one's disrespect to others is an injury to oneself, at the very least level one's karma is tainted. How the eyes are positioned or the amount of fat or length matters not in this.
I think it's too harsh to throw all of Thailand on the same pile, yes, they smell money and sometimes they cannot contain themselves. Just as we smell sex and sometimes cannot contain ourselves, or cheap food and transportation and clothing and whatnot. My girlfriend was overjoyed at the price of certain necklaces here, now she wants me to go back and buy her rings that match yesterday's necklace and earrings because she can never get them for the same price back home - she even gave me the big eye treatment. Suffice to say we will be going back.
What happens is logical to an extent, the only problem is that we go to bars, especially the more established ones like Obsessions (and in my case that have a link to my hotel) for protection from this. When this fails, it is a bit of a blow to the feeling that if we keep our wits about we are safe. At the same time, it's only money, and lets be honest, not a huge amount. So the insult is mostly to the Ego I would have to conclude... in other words, learn from the experience and move on I would say.
@Pacman:
Even though the Penthouse has it's ups and downs we've enjoyed it a lot and I never imagined blaming the hotel for what happened in Obsessions. My girlfriend loves the place and enjoys the 24 hour room service far too much for me to consider moving out. But I can understand the frustration of some of the board members, seeing as I can't turn on the TV here and not see dancing kittens and ladyboys

Exactly – One day they cheat and steal. The next they pray to Buddha. Similar to the western world. Forgive me father for I have sinned. Never mind son. There Hail Mary’s and all will be okay.

that to me, is how they see us.
they think of us as loaded, and it dos,nt matter to rip us off as we can afford it.
personally, i dont think this bar will ever change, as its not a bar.
its a brothel that sells drinks.
they dont care if you come back or not, theres a crew of japanese here for one week, ers behind you, that have nipped in as part of the tour around boystown.
and they are easier to rip off.
problem is,
we all get lumped into the "foreign tourist" group and they think everyone will only ever try the place once.
which ironically, due to this behaviour,
is true.

No mate a small Aussies guys was the brains behind Obsessions. I remember meeting him a few years back. Used to have something to do with horses back in Aus. Never saw him with a woman so don't think he was married. Didn't seem the type. Planning a return trip later in the year and will post a report.
