Is that for blending in with the trees on Beach Road ? For when you don't want certain ladyboys to know you are in town.

... I like think our the level of English is much better on average than that of our neighbours to the South, or in AB's case the North-West. But then, two times zero is still zero...

Ah, Canada, come on now, I thought we were pals. Our one pal that we had left. *sigh* :usa:

Anyway, I do have something on topic to say. I mentioned to some tourist here in Sai Gon earlier today -- it was time for my daily iced Vietnamese coffee -- that I was heading over to Thailand next month for a week-long holiday (sorry, I'm American, I mean "vacation"). He urged me to go to Phuket -- he was flabbergasted that I used to live in the kingdom and somehow never made it down there. And then he said I just had to check out this bar called C&D's.

He kept singing its praises. "Trust me, you'll love the girls they have in this bar," he concluded in his best snipe-hunting voice. Wink wink, nudge nudge to his buddy.

I don't know whether he was trying to bullshit me and take the piss (as the Brits say) or just sharing the inside joke with knowing looks to his friend, but I was feeling a little ornery, so I one-upped him. "Cocktails and Dreams? Oh, so you're into ladyboys, huh?" Figured if he and his pal were true members of our club he'd come clean, but he immediately choked on his coffee and began verbally backpedaling, like he was suddenly afraid I was going to call his manhood into question.

"It's alright, lots of guys are," I said and smiled. "That's why I spent my last holiday in Pattaya." That shut them up. I added some pleasantry about safe travels and walked out. I hope he wasn't a member of this forum; if he was, I was just messin' with ya -- no hard feelings.

Now as for the white elephant in the room, I'm not to fond of the whole PC thing either, but I think Anthony and others have a valid point; the forum has rules, and there are reasons for them, even if we don't agree with them. And if we don't like 'em, we are free to go -- the mods were just doing their jobs.

Having said that, and having lived in a resort town back in the U.S., I can understand how stereotypes develop; one tends to get much of the lowest common denominator of traveler in a high-traffic resort setting. Such is life.

And even though we've never met, happy birthday to NingNong; I'll make it down there one of these days soon (after high season).

And by golly, did you know that the term "septic" has a unique and synonymous meaning for we Yanks in certain parts? I'll be danged. I just learned that.

He kept singing its praises. "Trust me, you'll love the girls they have in this bar," he concluded in his best snipe-hunting voice. Wink wink, nudge nudge to his buddy.

Snipe! They're delicious!

so I one-upped him. "Cocktails and Dreams? Oh, so you're into ladyboys, huh?" Figured if he and his pal were true members of our club he'd come clean, but he immediately choked on his coffee and began verbally backpedaling, like he was suddenly afraid I was going to call his manhood into question.

..............................................................

That reminds me of the time when I met a guy in C&D's who is in my profession (different company). He was in there with his st8 m8.

Seeing me with one of the C&D girls, he quite conspiratorially says to me "you know, you're sitting with a ladyboy". "Really???" I say and look astonished. With a well-composed face that said "yep, and you didn't hear it from me". Next he says, "every girl in here is a dude". I turn to the LB on my arm and with an astonished look as "are YOU a ladyboy??". She nods yes.

I then throw my arms around her and kiss her on the lips. I look at the guy, who is totally shocked (guys in my line tend to be way too manly for such things as ladyboys). After a pause, he just shrugs and says "Hey man....whatever you're into".

So much for taking the piss. Enjoy your vacation 4:17! Hope you get aholt of sum nice funbags....and watch out for those wankers!

Long live a Free French-Africa! :cnd:

Yes there are many scumbags in thailand ( and in the world ) but most of the people no matter wich country they come from are there to have fun and a fantastic holiday, and the best about thailand are that there are MANY bars so i just change bar if there are bad people in there and if i like the bar i come back after a while to see if they are gone.

 Great response, Nix. I've said it before, but WOW, have you come a long way. Could you have ever imagined reacting that way a couple of years ago, or even last year?

A lot of friendly banter about Canadians here, but on a serious note, I'm a born and raised New York City guy, and I love Canada. I always think of Toronto as a safe, friendly and clean NYC, and Vancouver is one of the best cities I have ever visited. I worked with a guy from Chicago whose parents, though not wealthy, were fortunate and smart enough to buy some property when they were young, and real estate prices were fairly reasonable. They now winter in Scottsdale, Arizona and summer in Banff. Now that's a great life. While I've never been there, from what I've seen in photos and videos, Banff has to be one of the most beautiful areas in the world. Just my off-topic 2 cents, eh?

Banff is indeed a stunningly beautiful spot. In fact, I had the good fortune to live there for nigh-on 20 years before coming to Asia. Relatively speaking, the skiing and drinking are cheap compared to the Alps, and even most of the 'in' skiing spots in the States, like Vail, etc.

If winter sports are not your thing, September is the best month to go. Days are still relatively long that far north, warm sunny days (the sunniest month of the year), cool nights (next to no mosquitos), the rag rats are back in school (almost no tourists), and hotels, wait staff & restaurants are happy for the business.

Without a doubt, the 330km (205mile) drive from Banff to Jasper is one the most beautiful and spectacular drives in the world.

But, you'll need to bring your own ladyboy, eh! 8)

Come on, Jimbo. You're above this. It's a spiteful post that shows that you're still pouting about this whole thing. You've been lurking around the Forum for a couple of days now without posting, so you obviously know that a lot of us want you to return. If you insist on posting just to advertise another forum, perhaps even your fans should stop posting here, and let this much-loved thread die a peaceful death. That's what you seem to want, and we should probably grant your wish.
