:) I've just had 8 nights at the good old PBR which, including picking up and dropping off at the airport, cost me 9,600 Baht (around 150 squidlies), I never made breakfast once, the staff couldn't have been nicer and once they got to know my habits, worked around them, can't fault it.

They are working on a building site just to the left of the rear of the avenue complex so if you want a bit of peace and quiet as you have your daily battle nap ask to be located accordingly, though, to be honest, if you have the air con on, you don't really notice it.

Coming out the hotel you can take a swift right and cut through the avenue to 2nd Street over the road and in 5 minutes you're perched in La Bamba, if you carry past the rear of the avenue and head up the road and hang a left you're in Soi Boukhow and its 5 minutes to Pooks 2.

It is very popular which can only mean one thing, the price will rise!

No offense to the original poster, but I have to disagree about this hotel. I stayed there for a week in April.

The hotel itself is nice, but the location is absolutely positively absurd.

For some reason you didnt mention in your original post anything about the solid 20 minute walk to the main drag where all the clubs are.

The 20 minute walk and the "tuk tuk" service that refuses to take you there. Even with your shortcut, its a solid 20 minutes. Without it, you're looking at 35 to 40 minutes going the long way.

I actually was so fed up that I timed it, and walking briskly (faster than everyone else) it took 23 minutes, including short cuts.

Suffice it to say that on nights where I was completely inebriated at 4am, I found myself wandering the whole of Pattaya, lost, and without hope. I couldn't find my way back, there was no Tuk Tuk service to call and pick me up, and the Taxi drivers all thought I was referring to "Pattay Bay Hotel" which is far far away.

If I return to Pattaya, I will be staying somewhere within walking distance.

Dude, there is no way that shortcut is much more than 5 minutes. It wouldn't be 20 minutes crawling on your hands and knees.

Yep a little confused the hotel is pretty much level with Soi 13/1 but one block over. At night you just get a baht bus to drop you on 2nd road by Soi 13/1 and walk thru the new shopping complex and your there!?

Of course if you want a baht bus from the hotel then you really need to cross 2nd road walk to the end of the nearst Soi onto beach road and flag one down. (If heading to walking street.) Max time is about 5-10 mins to walk. If your heading to Soi 6 etc then just flag one down on 2nd Road

I have a feeling your basing your problems on wanting to be next to Walking Street (As you refer to a main drag.) Pretty much all the Soi's between 2nd rd and Beach are classed as the main area. There are a few hotels on walking street such as Jasmin but PBR would be classed as a hotel in the middle of the action and easy access to all areas.

Of course most people use the baht buses up and down the main drag so any hotel on that route is classed as central.

Oh well if your after a hotel that allows you to walk to Walking Street in 5 mins or less I'm afraid your options will be limited.

I always pick up and carry one of the hotel's business cards. Used it many times to get a quick motorbike taxi back to the PBR.

Is this the same place? I took this picture of it myself.

Yes - I meant walking to walking street. That's where I wanted to be.

23 solid minutes to get there each direction, and being forced to walk ... makes its location suck, in my opinion.

Yes, that's the place!
You are a very slow walker, try striding out a little more down the back stretch
There would not be many quality hotels which are significantly closer to Walking Street, perhaps next time you should go for a drink at either Stringfellows or LaBamba en route, then jump on the back of a bike for the return ride with a hotel business card in your pocket which gives the PBR location in Thai :?

Yep, the hotel with the big 'Pattaya Bay Resort' sign on the roof is the Pattaya Bay Resort, or PBR.

I've never stayed there but have never heard a bad word about it, the location is very good too, IMO.

Pattaya is spread out so no one single location gives walking access to all, so you need to plan that into your hotel choice and target venues.

Stayed there. It's OK, but not my cup 'o tea. Give me the LK Renaissance any day... do I sound like a broken record :?
I don't mind you coming here
And wasting all my time
Cuz when you're standing oh so near
I kinda lose my mind, yeah
