I just bought a Panny FX35, one of the best compact cameras which outweighs the others for one reason.... it has 720p HDD video on it, the quality pretty much of an older analogue video camera which you can play full screen even on a larger Mac monitor!
Also its fully widescreen, so all shots fill a widescreen monitor!
Worth a look!

There's better camera's mentioned here than this new Sony regards low light bar and room shots and considerably better priced ... Half the cost in some cases than this model.
If your going to be taking out door shots, daylight photos then this Sony will give you good quality, high defination and allow you to trim your photos and still achieve good defination prints. If your a photo pc viewer then why pay more than you need.
Try to overlook the high pixel factor and its still only 3x zoom same as many lower priced cameras.
I personally like the build quality of the new Sony but i'd use a sandwich box casing with good optics if it achieved the quality i was after. Try to overlook a camera casings good looks it's photo quality first you want and that depends on where you'll be using it most.
I'd look back through some of the camera's earlier mentioned as some of the best photos i've seen lately where taken with a £55/ 3,500baht Samsung as used by Donnykey & Pentire and they'll happilly give you the model number
Best wishes,
Karl.

Any one any advice on a good point and shooter?
Just something to bring about during night time. The iPhone, even with Darkroom app, doesnt cut it for me. Lol. Brought my 400D on my first trip only, which I didnt really like and didnt take out during night, didnt bother bringing my 5D for my noob trip.
Only point and shooter I have had is the old G7 but found it a bit bulky for its purposes. Looking for a small compact point and shoot :
- ~100+ Euros
- ~8-10 MP
- Apeture range 2.8-4.0/5.6
- At least ~ISO800
- Preferably with M/AV controls
- Reasonable zoom range ~35-150/200
I am used to working with Canon range. Like the specs of the Powershot E1. Not sure about its low-light sensitivity though...
Anyone any thoughts?

I have a Panasonic TZ3 a bit older now, but still works well. 7.1 mp, 10x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, etc. Nice size, just pocketable.
If you search you may find a TZ5 as they are on clearance now the TZ7 is out.
If you want some more manual adjustments the Panasonic LZ 3 is a good choice.
For low light point and shoots the Fuji F40d was the king, but their newer models of the same variant are still good.

As said before my vote goes to Panasonic TZ5 to.
I had this camera now for the second time on field and can only say it is ideal camera for LOS picturing :
- small enough to fit into trousers pocket (where I had it for my two trips),
- battery lasts for a lot of pictures (frankly I don’t know how much, I know I used 2 batteries for my whole trip – more than 500 shots),
- 10x zoom,
- Fast response time,
- Clear pictures and super display,
- Good pictures in dark....
This camera is battle proven and I can only say It's worth every EUR you spent for it. If you have more EUR to spend, then buy newer TZ7 mainly because of better movie compression, this is only weakness of TZ5 – long movie files.

See below. Found my perfect point and shoot for nightly venturing. Figuring out at the mo if I can mount my Speedlight on top of it and get it to work.
Seriously, leaning towards the Canon Digital Ixus 990 IS ( http://www.pixmania-....html#tech-desc ). Great point and shoot specs / behaviour and super ultra compact. Lot over budget though, but prolly worth the investment. Apart from lack of manual control and no RAW files (argh!) v.similarly specced in comparison to the G10/P6000 top lines. And it has, unlike the others, 1280 HD vid, jay! Was tempted by the Nikon CoolPix P6000 (yes a Nikon for a Canon junky), which is evenly specced to the G10 but a lot more compact and seemingly a much better low light sensitity spec. But poor vid specs.
Do like the TZ5/7 specs a lot too. And indeed lot of good references throughout this post.

I'm waiting for the model with the x-ray vision!
Now 3.48% smarter, but 14.82% less interesting.

For LOS x-ray vision is useless, I think you can already see to much - no shy girls in Pattaya or Nana.
