The Older you get the Smarter you learn to travel I guess.
So far impressed by this little Jewel, Feels so light after the Canon.
Not sure where you are, but traded my older gear at Henry's Photography shop.
Couldn't be bothered with E Bay, Shipping Payments etc

I've made the switch as well.

I just picked up the Fuji X-E1 a couple weeks ago. Great camera and shall be replacing my new Canon SLR that is less than a year old. I keep telling myself I'm going to put it up on ebay or craigslist to pay for my new camera, but can't seem to part with it.

So far the X-E1 is quite impressive. Though I need to get out shooting something other than the items around my yard. Definitely better for travel and I won't mind bringing it out at night. I would lug my SLR half way round the world only to stash it in the safe most of the time.

After buying this camera I don't see myself changing for a long time, it just feels right (size, weight, image quality, interchangeable lenses....).

How are you guys with the OMD (or any ILC) carring them around? I bought a small(ish) shouler/hip bag, but my feelings on it so far are... meh

if it was me I'd invest in the dedicated camera case and just keep it round your neck when out and about.

I had a small echolec bag for my Nikon CSC and the thing never left the bag! My fuji X10 never left my neck which meant more pics.

What lens did you get with it Hootster? The 18-55mm kit lens? :D

Hoot,
I carry at night what I call a "Abuse Me" Camera
Pentax WG-1. Ugly as Hell, shock proof, water proof, Not Steeling Proof though, but has a size small enough to fit in Pants or shirt pocket, Weight Nothing.
I consider the OMD a bit too fragile, for taking on a rampage, Specially the large Display

I actually did get the kit lens - but it is much nicer than any kit lens I've had before. F2.0 - F4.0 at 55mm. I wanted a good walking around lens. As much as I love the prime lenses, I still love the convenience of the zooms as well.

Though I also got the 35mm F1.4 - which i got for portraits and 'occasional' low light shot :harhar:

I might also consider getting the 55-200 zoom when it comes out later this year, or maybe the 56mm 1.4, or .....

Man - photography is an expensive hobby.

I know what you are saying. I'm sure they'll be nights where I'll decide to leave it in room, knowing how some nights turn out. These are expensive toys I'd rather not break or lose. Which is kind of why I'm leaning toward a bag vs. a strap (which I do use during the day). But Petesie has got me reconsidering that as well, the harder the camera is to get at the less likely I will take it out and shoot.

I also carry my compact S95 around with me almost everywhere when I'm in town. It has done the lions share of the work when I'm there.

you definitely win on the ugly camera front. :D

My Canon doesn't have any sort of rugged features. It is just compact and fits in a small case on my belt. Makes it convenient for me to take it everywhere and not be self-conscious about it. But I would still hate to break it, lose it, or have it stolen.

Several years back I had a small camera that I kept in my pocket most of the time. One night in Ezy bar I took it out for some shots and found that the lcd screen had shattered. A real downer, and I had no photos for the majority of my trip. That's why it is now on my hip - no chance my fat ass can sit on it now.

I was there that night and I'm pretty sure it was when you were on a wee bit of a downer and we all got shit-faced and fell down the Ezy stairs...I also seem to remember thats when you woke up in the morning all alone in their ST Looms... :harhar:

i went to look at the EX-1 and the buggers now have the X-100s in...aargh!

What to do?

Do you want to shoot 35mm only (x100s) or have flexibility to shoot at different focal lengths (sexyone)?

Not sure big fella...still have my D300s but can't afford the upgrade to the D800 or the holy trinity of lenses at the moment so I'm thinking of a stop-gap which will keep me snapping away and retain my interest and I do like the X range :D

My wee Sony RX100 is going great guns and I always have that with me, good camera but handles like shit so only a matter of time before I drop it a good one and fuck it up.

The XE-1 I can pick up tomorrow but I'm not convinced with the 12-55 kit lens. The shops are shit here in the Sandpit and no-one has any subject matter knowledge. :tantrum:

I only buy fresh from their store-rooms as you can't tell how many times the fuckers have dropped it, hence I retired my X-10 which had processor issues and no-one could sort it.
