Yea you go that spot on Petesie. There might be the odd over eager one doing the hard sell, but that is more a case of amateur exuberance rather than any hardness. Anyway, back to Pattaya tomorrow. You capture the general spirit and ambiance of Hua Hin extremely well BB..

Foggy and I meet in reception at 9.50 for our pick up at 10. The mini van arrives on time, we jump in and there is one other guy already on board. The van stops on the main road at the company office and some documents are exchanged between the driver and someone working there. After about 2 minutes we are on our way. We reach the edge of town without picking up anyone else, so unless he picks up more passengers in Cha am we have the bus to ourselves, excellent. How do they make money on this I think to myself. We would find out in the next few hours that he had no intention of making a loss.
About an hour into the journey we pull into one of those garages/toilets/shop. While we sit waiting to go back to the van, we notice the driver moving our luggage to a different van. We head over and he informs us to get into this van. Makes sense we guess, one full van going to Pattaya instead of two with one of them with only 3 customers. All seems fine.
I know from previous journeys that the road skirts the south of Bkk, so on the left one can see the city and on the right is mostly greenery. So I am surprised when I look out and see high rise buildings surrounding us. I try to see if I can recognise any of them, and when I do I cope on we are heading into the city. My phone (DTAC) gives the cell location, and Hualamgphong train station appears. Maybe they are picking up some passengers there I assure myself.
But no, on the driver goes, and before we know it we are at Victory Monument. WTF!! He tells us to get out, to take another bus to Pattaya. Ok, a bit of hassle, but we have our tickets for the full journey, so this is just a connecting stop we naively presume. Many van companies use this area, mostly for locals and we are the only farangs there. We see Pattaya on the board at the stall and tell the old boy "PATTAYA"
He does not speak a word of English and commences to write us out 3 new tickets. Nah wait a moment, we have an all is ticket, what bullshit is going on here. We show him our tickets with the price and destination, but all we get are "mai kow jai" (I not understand), fook. I call the travel agent in HH, they talk to him, but still all we get is "mai kow jai"
We try to figure out what is going on. The old boy has no clue about our ticket. We finally reckon that the original driver in HH did not fancy going all the way to Pattaya with just 3 passengers, and so stuck us on the second bus and told the driver we were going to Pattaya. The moment we got on the second the bus, the problem was no longer the first driver's. TIT indeed.
A Thai woman who speaks English comes along, someone must have told her there were 3 confused farangs waiting for a bus. We tell her our tale, and she rings the HH office where we bought our ticket. They tell her a mini van from the original company is driving around V M looking for us, but has probably missed us by now. We thank her and ponder our next move. We have been sitting here over an hour now, and the day is drifting away from us. We should be in Patts by now, not stuck in the stifling, polluted centre of Bkk.
We realise noting is going to happen, so time to make a decision. We consider getting a taxi, but to catch one in this area might turn out to be more hassle than it is worth. The old boy's mini vans look dodgy, so I suggest we head over the other side of V M and look for the stall of the HH company as I know where they leave from. On the way I ring the agent in HH and she tells us if we come back to HH she will refund our ticket, well not much chance of us doing that.
We cannot find the right stall, but one guy has a van leaving for Patts in 2 minutes, and only 95 Baht. We jump in, and finally we are on our way. Foggy rings his mate in HH and asks him to pop round to the agency and see can he get any type of refund. We eventually make it to Patts at 4.10 pm, almost 3 hours later than expected, but still daylight at least.

We get our rooms, and it still feels weird to walk the corridors which a week ago I did not know when I would see again. We are not sure if Ian is one of us, so w e don't make any arrangements to go out with him. F. and I decide to head up to get some food in Chow Soy as soon as we unpack and clean. On the way along Buakhao F. gets a call from his mate in HH. The guy went to the travel agent and managed to get a full refund, 800 Baht, result. So the whole trip for HH to Patts cost us 95 Baht each albeit with a few lost hours and frustration.
The waitress in Chow Soy is amazed to see me, as when I left I told her I would be away for a long time. We eat and I call Ninewives to see what he is up to. He says he can meet me in PBG in about an hour. It's now about 5.20 pm, and I am already dressed for the night, no intention of going back to the room till the next morning. So I tell him I'll meet him there then, and we can head to Jomtien directly, as we have already decided tonight is Jomtien night.
After the meal, we head down Soi Honey and on towards Beach road. We spot a cute one of ours, her name is Lek and F. gets her number. She has a slight resemblance to an young version on Jen, ex Ezy/Stringfellows. On we go and finally make it to PBG. F. has a quick drink, as he wants to go back to the room to change leaving me to wait for NW. I prop my elbow on the side of the wall and look around, am I really back here I keep repeating in my mind, and then tell myself you have been handed two bonus nights in Pattaya, enjoy. It's almost like a brand new mini holiday.

I can't be arsed with the hassle, I get my taxi direct from HH to tinseltown for 2,500...a few beers and a food stop and 3 hours later you're there...SLBT tells me the ferry is up and running again too..

It was a hassle for sure, but Dav26 and May did it the previous Monday in a direct van in just over 3 hours with the same company, so it looks like we just got a slacker driver. The old van/taxi scam...

Kip and Ning are surprised and in Kip's case delighted to see us and NW in particular. We grab our usual table and let the night commence. EyeMahk arrives 20 minutes later, he approaches the bar in his unique, slowly taking it all in way. It's his first time in the bar and he gives me his approving smile. Puttytat follows a while later and the banter is in full flow. As I only have 2 nights left in Los, tonight will be a whistle stop visit to Jomtien with the intention of finishing up in Sally"s. After about an hour and a half, Foggy, EyeMahk and I head off towards Bar 54, NW and Putytat say they will follow us later.

A very relaxing, pleasant hour is only interrupted by the ungainly sight of some semi clad Russians coming back from the beach at this unusual time, relax gents, they were not the blonde amazon ones sadly. EyeMahk is feeling peckish, so he heads over towards soi 5 to get a bite to eat and says he'll catch us in Sally's. NW also calls and makes the same arrangement. Foggy and I have one more for the road or should that be soi, before joining up with the rest of the posse in Sals.

I totally immerse myself in the occasion, savouring every minute, knowing this is the last time I'll drink in one of my favourite LB bars in Los for a while. Some classic sounds are playing at the right volume, and it feels like being in a semi dream state, good company, friendly LBs, cool beer and great tunes all merging into one to create a magic feeling and my mind totally focused on enjoying every precious second of the experience.
