Having read all the news, i feel like i was unconscious or stupid...

Yesterday (19th), i woke up at 9pm, i watched sports and checked my bets on internet as usual. At 11pm, after shower, i was (at last) ready to go out. First, i intended to check Geisha Bar soi 3.
So i was on my way on my moped and quickly, i realized that there was nobody in the streets, bars closed, restaurants...I was thinking, fuck! Josh, you idiot, you don't how to set your mobile properly (alarm clock)!...It should be 3 or 4 am... 7/11 are also closed with newspapers on the windows (so you can't see inside), that's really strange...Walking street: dead calm!!! Hum!!! May; no buddha day normally... I went to a restaurant next to marine disco and there, a policeman told me to go back to my room "klap ban, klap ban!!!" No way! i'm starving (there's no service room or restaurant inside my mansion). Soi 13/2, some men armed with gun...Ok... ciao!!! I found some security officer next to Mike shopping mall behind barriers who told me a little about the situation. At last, i found a cart, i bought some food (take away) and also found one Minimart open to buy some beers and stuff. Back to my room, i tried to contact some (old) acquaintances (gg and lb), no problem i have many contacts!!! But no, after more than a dozen of calls, i couldn't find a girl:
answering machine, not reachable, nobody answer, the number do not exist anymore, i talked with a girl who i though was my friend (she was actually a friend of my friend...), a girl i met recently wanted 2300 bath for a ST, and some friends (farang) had already someone to take care of them...Two girls phoned me but sorry, i was not interested at all.

Putain de merde! it's not possible, i don't care, i will even fuck a guy tonight but i won't stay unaccompanied...Well at that point, i'm thinking, i'll go out and see if i'm lucky.

Eventually, Sindy (Ezy), the girl i barfined the day before called me, yes!!! :clapclap:. I went to North Pattaya to fetch her (almost no motosaï), i also brought her back to her room. Well, i spent a really good night  Nobody arrested me/us and what was funny is that Sindy pointed out i was wearing a red shirt... :redcard:

The curfew in Bangkok has been extended now until Sunday. No one outside from 9 pm to 5 am. Not sure about other areas yet.

Mardhi - you misread my post.
The Farangs are not leaving but discussing 'What' they need to do if it all flares up suddenly. For example if the banks close and ATMs are turned off you will need to have some cash reserves to buy an air ticket, gas for the car whatever.

It does make sense to have something pre planned as these situations can quickly reach flash point. Your wealthy friends may be better cushioned but for someone living downtown they could find themselves in the center of a potentially dangerous situation. Even just having the ability to move out of 'downtown' quickly with Passport and valuables is a plan.

It could be worse.... it still might rain

Just read a report from a bar owner who drove around on his bike this morning at 6am around Patt's. By the Big C, where the red shirts had a tent and big flat screen TV, are all packed up and gone!

Ether they have been rounded up, or just quietly left over night. He took a photo of just an empty tent, and one guy rolling up a power cable.

ATM machines are only switched off during curfew hours 9pm to 5am, and between 5am to 9pm its business as usual, just for the next couple of days.

So stock up the room fridge, and BF/ST/eat early, and it will be over before you know it. :clapclap:

Looks like I just got out in time, I did come back from Bangkok and spent another couple of nights in Pattaya and then left yesterday back to LOM (land of misery).

Note taxi drivers tried to put prices up to 2000 baht for airport run, but I held my ground and got for 750 baht in the end, its cos they have not much business.

why can't the king just step in as he has in the past and say that is enough no more. no matter who you are in thailand as i found out they all love him.

Alaskan Bear

a good question but a word of warning

there has been several post and discussion about the monarchy in this forum all of which have been deleted as this it is not allowed to be discussed in Thailand. And as this web page is linked and available in thailand I'm sure the owners would not want any adverse focus on them during these troubling time

I suggest you do a search online and you will find many links discussing this issue.

Hi Rossco - yes your right I misread your post - my appologies on that score - the point I am trying to balance is that outide of BKK and certain areas in the North East fueled by copious drink no doubt & mob mentality, there is very little negative activity going on and most people are quite understanding of the need to have this in place.

Interesting though that someone has altered my post and It was not me !!!

Cheers
Mardhi

On a lighter note.

In my village there is an elderly Thai gentleman who has a motorbike, with side car, all decked out in yellow/gold. Mounted on the canopy are Flags of Thailand and the King Royal standard.

This motor tricycle is all in yellow/gold.

2 weeks ago he dressed completely in red (I thought he was a Man U substitute). He had mounted a 'bull horn' on his motor trike and was driving around the market area making announcements - no script - just off hand remarks. We were just sitting and having a beer and trying not to laugh.

He returned to his shop where his wife started to remonstrate/shout at him - she was bellowing at him to not be stupid but he was replying to her, not 3 feet (1 meter) away, using the bull horn.

The 'domestic' brought the village to a standstill - I wish I had my camera with me. I was definitely a Kodak moment.

I live about 17 Kms outside Pattaya and the local population are just getting on with life as normal. Visiting the market, using the salon and post office and local construction carries on. I can still sit out in a local Mum/Pop shop and drink a large Leo, served with ice, for 45 Baht.

We just all hope this passes into history and we can all get back to normal operations.
