I have two pinned threads and several others that I will no longer be able to view unless I pay. I thought I would always have access to these photos but if I can't access them I'm not cool about them selling subscriptions so those who pay only can see them, when I just wanted to share them with the whole forum.

Must admit that's a good point.

Retrospectively, previously posted trip reports held within the 'new' VIP area at TLF should be deleted upon request should the original poster wish it so, to do otherwise would be using a person's posts for monetary gain without their permission and may have legal consequences associated. Also, it would be a fucking appalling way to operate a business.


To answer the opening question...
Re: TLF; no I wouldn't pay. Not when the vast majority of TRs and picture threads and reports are duplicated on free forums elsewhere, i.e. here at LB-69. The only difference over there is that they would likely be littered with comments from the jaded crowd.

I do not think any legal argument can be made. If you elect to 'post' information on a site then you are 'donating/contributing' to that site and your post becomes the property of the site.

They are, after all, Open Forums. You elect to post.

The site (site owners) can take action against those copying/pirating from their web site.

So, unfortunately, you do not retain any intellectual property over your own posts nor contributions.

I understand the reason behind TLF's change - some people showing photos/trip reports to those LBs featured in the report. This lead to the BM requesting removal of their trip report - what would a Forum be without Trip Reports.

There was a big debate, over on TLF, on how to resolve the issue and the outcome was a 'Pay for view' VIP Forum.

I agree that an annual subscription will deter the 'casual' user and probably most of the LB community - they will not pay 50 Bucks for access. Will it stop those people showing LBs the reports/photos - probably not BUT it will become more transparent which BM is doing so as the number of 'Paid Up' members will be smaller.

I shall be using this forum more often now. It's not the price that bothers me it's the fact that you have to pay for the interesting content. A forum is supposed to be a community where like minded people share information and ideas for free.

I completely agree. TLf have the right to start charging for areas of their site, and they do have a unique wealth of information available - but to move BM's trip reports and large photo posts into an area where they cannot view, edit or delete it (without paying), and yet sell access to others, is not really fair play.

i don't think its the end of TLF, but they should show a bit more respect to the BM's who have put a lot of time an effort into the forum.

I hope they either give free access to those who have had their threads moved into the free area, move the threads back into the public area, or honour requests to delete them.

There may not be any legal obligation to do so, but there should be a little more respect and responsibility.

LB69 will continue to be a free forum.. Group hug..

I'm really pissed off that the other forum has removed ME, but kept my posts - Bali information, which I no longer wish them to have. And a few pics. My request for removal has disappeared, and, instead, permission to post has been taken away, so as to shut me up.

Yes they don't like being called out on something so they just silence it. Its ok when BM's bag other BM's with attacks or even threats, however if you question a moderator or the multiple alias' of Stogie and your days will be numbered.

Interesting thing is we have some of their moderators here. Will be interesting how they try to spin this. I'm guessing they will try to fly under the radar and put it all on "The new owners" What a facade that is. How convienant, the new owners are doing to protect BM whose photos were being shown to LB's. Thats been happening for years.

I'm not down with that either fridgemag. I have several lengthy threads that I cannot access. Two pinned including one that is the 8th or 9th most replied to with over 160,000 views. Great appreciation they show to their contributors. They had said they would remove photos upon requests, but obviously they don't want to do that as they would be losing a bunch a of content at a time when they are in their initial subscription drive. They are desperately trying to turn the NEW VIP's on people by suggesting they are cheap or saying its only $1 a week.

Before going to LOS, I probably wouldn't have considered paying to join a site.

That said, it would have been interesting to see what would have transpired if I this had been a pay site and I had never joined as it was through this very site that I got the courage (for the lack of a more apt description) thanks to the wealth of information available, to actually make it happen (my trip) rather than fantasize about it happening.

Now that I've been there, done that and got the t-shirt I would definitely pay to stay a member. Everything changes after you have been there and can put names to the faces of both the ladyboys and the other BM's I was fortunate enough to meet.

Given the way I've been treated so far, do you really think I will be allowed to remove all my posts for $3? That sum I would be happy to pay, as this internet "enclosures act" rankles.
A forum is a free gathering of people, for the purpose of information exchange. Me no pay on principle.
This information is becoming valuable, as trying life on the dark side becomes mainstream - apparently transexual porn is booming.
Now newcomers must pay for a holiday guide - the whole wish list thing.
I guess that could be Stogies' motivation here.
I dearly hope that this forum will increasingly represent those who live the life, for me, the real deal.

For new readers of the forum. Every member has the ability to go back and edit your posts, add or delete photos. I have since started a quotable quotes thread that Baron spoke of earlier.
