Update on the fees: Bangkok Bank is now also "scamming" the 180BHT fee from us farangs. Welcome to Thailand!

All Thai banks are now charging 180 Baht transaction fee if you are using a foreign bank ATM card.

 

Also banks have now increased their fee for cashing traveler's cheques from 33 Baht to 153 Baht. That pretty much rules them out as a good way to bring funds to Thailand, as the maximum denomination was $500 (USD or Canadian) or 500 Euro.

Transferred a few thousand dollars from my US bank online to my Bangkok Bank account (NY branch). My bank charges a flat fee of $3.00 per transaction. What ended up in my BKK Account came at a rate of $35.35 - a far cry from the $29 a few years back.

European cards may be able to avoid the 150/180b fee with Citibank ATMs.

My Canadian bank ATM card incurred the 150 Baht fee at Citibank Asoke ATMs last year - but you can withdraw more from their ATMs as long as you don't exceed your home branch maximum (in Canada that tends to be $1000.00 per day). I am pretty sure that they would have increased their fee to the current 180 Baht now.

Yes, it has been suggested, but is only an option for US residents.

Apart from the Thai banks charges my own bank charges me a currency conversion fee and a fee for withdrawal from a foreign bank. It was costing me several hundred dollars each trip. Fuck that !!!! I just always take cash now.

i have a buddy who has an 'international card' from schwab, he is a us citizen but not a resident........

 

there are other cards out there that also refund fees, sadly i dont know what they are but i do know they exist
