The fed is being coy about when they will start tightening up the stimulus. Now they are hinting it could be soon again. When they actually decide to go ahead, the Thai Baht will definitely weaken more. This current strengthening is temporary, as the Fed announce no tightening for the next month.

If the US Fed starts reducing stimulus I would say the dollar gets stronger instead of saying the baht is weakening. But I guess it's all the same thing. The surprise from the last Fed meeting seems to have knocked 0.6-0.7 baht off the dollar in one day. Two more Fed meetings before I need to transfer money. I didn't have the money to transfer when the rate hit 32.3-32.4. But I would have probably screwed up and held out of a higher rate anyway.

Yeah RX,

After reading the stories about the quality of the Rails (Bought at about 20,000 a ton versus the 45,000 price for quality rail needed) I cannot help but wonder who is going to profit from all these projects.

Certainly Us visitors as the Baht takes a dive, but not in the near future. I give it 1 year minimum or Another major flood

Best Exchange Rate Locations Bangkok

Surfed and found that VASU is offering the best in Bangkok.

For those staying at Nana area, closest location is on Sukhumvit soi 7 or 9 (forgot) across from a Subway Shop.

Got 30.2 to the C$ today, Bank rate was 29.85.

That's a few Brews difference

Like many people, from time to time I draw Baht from my UK bank account via an ATM in Thailand and I keep records of all those withdrawals to assist with budgeting and a bit of financial planning. The true cost of the lows and the highs of the exchange rates can truly be seen when you see the changing cost of B10,000 using your home currency.

2 Apr 2013, PATTAYA TAI BRANCH, CHONBURI TH, THB 10150.00, RATE 44.0710, CHARGE 4.73 - £241.37

27 Dec 2013, THANON PATTAYA TAI, CHONBURI TH, THB 10150.00, RATE 53.2361, TRN FEE 5.24 - £199.71

B10,000 now costs over £41 less than it did back in April this year when it was at it's worst. That's a clear 20% gain to date and another sweet milestone reached, the sub £200 for B10k via ATM

Fingers-crossed for further improvement as the West recovers and Thailand's bubble feels the pressure.

The cheap charlies (russians & chinese) are already here Benneth. And a few more won't save Thailand from the crash that's surely coming.

Interesting post from Dixon Cox showing the difference even a small exchange is now so much cheaper.

It's taken a while but the other day I changed some cash at an exchange booth on Soi Buakhao and got over 55 baht to the pound ~ 55.10 to be precise. Nothing like the good old days of exchange rates in years gone by but for recent times it's the best it's been for many years.

Another pleasant milestone achieved, hopefully it'll gradually continue to creep in a positive direction.
