Just took a stroll in the boxing bar complex, and Wood Bar is no longer. Now some girl's name on it. Though I did see one LB sitting at the bar; not one I recognized. Anyone know what happened to this place and the girls that were there?
It was early and the whole complex was quite dead, but maybe that's a sign of the times in the aftermath; I didn't have time to stick around and do a proper survey. Maybe soon!

I was there in Wooden bar in May and both Jen and Nok have gone.
Was told there was a bit of trouble and police got involved.
The bar is now run by a LB who used to work in Marina bar, cant remember name. Her sister buy for her,
Bar fined her in Marina and wasn't worth a repeat, had quite high cheekbones but after a trip to the silicon squad face looks like a size 5 mitre.

There was quite a few new faces around in the beer bars on Loi Kroh road,
Most bars seem to have a LB on their staff, managed to do a couple of new faces.
I'm feeling young again but quite insane because I'm mad about the ladyboy

Just spent a week in Chiang Mai, which just happens to be a great place to celebrate Loy Krathong.

Whilst I was essentially there on a "family vacation", I did manage to investigate the scene a little.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but the cabaret venue previously operating as Simon Cabaret has re-opened under the guise PLAYHOUSE.

http://www.playhouse-chiangmai.com/

I drove past, but never managed to see the show, however historically such cabaret venues have been a good way to meet ladyboys.

There are two shows each night at 8pm & 10pm which apparently include dinner.
N.B. They are closed on Sundays.

I'd suggest seeing the 10pm show if your intention is to make contact with one of the performers after the show and arrange a meet up.

Over at Soi Anusarn, there is also another ladyboy cabaret operating. Soi Anusarn is a popular little area off Changklan Road which houses restaurants and market style stalls selling mainly handicrafts.

As you enter the Chiang Mai entertainment centre (home of Marina Bar & The Shamrock Pub) there’s a bar on the left called Kooky Bar which has a couple of ladyboys on staff. The girls in this bar where actually rather cute too.

Marina Bar is still kicking along, however I preferred The Shamrock Pub in terms of LB quality and overall vibe.

I also noted a sprinkling of ladyboys in the bars on Loi Kroh Road, located on your left as you depart the Chiang Mai Entertainment Complex and head towards the old city/moat

Popped into Sassy Bar last night to say hello to Wan who was looking lovely in her Loy Krathong constume.

Sassy Bar is located on Loi Kroh Road, as you head towards the old city after leaving the Chiang Mai Entertainment Complex.

One week ago, I was told, the Playhouse show already shut down and is a Thai disco now.

The Anusarn Market show, by the way, show is organized by the former owner of Christy Cabaret in Koh Samui.

To the best of my knowledge, the Playhouse show is still going.

The hotel I was staying at offered me a promotional deal to entice me to see the show, but I never got there.

Would be extremely surprised if the venue had shut up shop yet again.

Cheers

The Playhouse web site is still advertising events in November/December and no news of closure amongst the chattering classes at Thai Visa (Chiang Mai) forum.

FYI my sources in CM inform me that there is a police crackdown on the bars in the Lio Kroh Road area at the moment. The MiB are sulig because the police run gogo, Spicey ( which wa always a tip IMHO) got closed down due to too many complaints so they are sulking and taking it out on the other bars, shutting them down around midnite, according to my sources.

Sassy Bar is located on Loi Kroh Road, as you head towards the old city after leaving the Chiang Mai Entertainment Complex.

I looked for Sassy bar back in July and I couldn't find it. I started to ask around and finally was told that it closed in February.  A lot of the Bars on Loi Kroh Road and the bpxing complex are feeling the squeeze by CM police. I was told by The Shamrock Bar owner that they want to shut all those bars down. Many are moving down by the night bazarre where they can stay open later. Currently the BIB is shutting down bars in the Boxing xomplex at midnight and the ones along Loi Kroh at 1 A.M. which gives the bars a very small window to trade. It's been this way since the curfew ended.

Currently there are 3 bars I would call ladyboy bars. The Shamrock and Marina which are totally dedicated Ladyboy bars and Friends Corner which is predominately ladyboys but has GG's too.  You can find a ladyboy or two at other bars but not that quality from what I saw.

The Shamrock opened up another bar called Bar Nine on September 1st.  They currently have two ladyboys working there, but they stay open later, so many of the Shamrock staff come down and from other bars I'm told.

Lot's of Markets in Chaing Mai to see day or night.  The night bazarre is open every night and very close to bars.  the Sunday Night market has the best bargains. It's located by the Thapae Gate. They close of the street and open from 6 P.M.until 11 I believe. I found a lot of the same items at day markets, and the Night Bazarre less expensive at the Sunday Night market.  Since it's just once a week it can get pretty crowded. Plenty of food and drink to be found about half way down the street.  Here are a couple of videos I shot.

This second one is of these blind guys who perform for tips right in the middle of the street.

The Sunday Market is also known as Walking Street (not to be confused with its namesake in Pattaya) and it is right in the middle of the old city within the walls.

It generally opens at 4 pm and Ratchadamnoen Road is always closed to traffic when the market is open. Best time to visit is after dark when the street entertainers including musicians and dancers start to perform.

The main difference between the Night Bazaar and the Sunday Market is that the former usually sells copy designer labels while the latter offers local craftsmanship with many vendors selling their own products, which in my modest opinion, were of high standard. If you are buying gifts, this is a great place to shop. Watch out for silk, wood and ceramics among others. if you are into temples try Wat Phan Tao and Wat Chedi Luang - both excellent.

If you get tired, foot massages is dead cheap at 60 thb (December 2013). You will find many coffee shops, restaurants and bars in that area but frankly I just buy food as I go along.

On each occasion I was there the Sunday market was open until midnight. If you are in CM and you only have little time, I would recommend the Sunday Market over the Night Bazaar.
