Where is Chiang Mai ?
Chiang Mai is located approximately 800kms north of Bangkok and 250kms south of the Myanmar border.

How do I get there ?

Flights
There are at least 30 flights a day between Chiang Mai and Bangkok on a variety of airlines, including Thai Airways as well as the budget carriers Nok Air, Air Asia & Orient Thai.

If you are more budget conscious (airfares are cheap anyway) you may wish to consider driving or catching a bus or train although personally flying is the only option I'd consider !

Buses
Several ordinary and air-conditioned buses leaving daily from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (also known as Mo Chit) on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road. Most air-con buses leave between 20.00 and 22.00 hrs. and it takes about 10-11 hours to reach Chiang Mai. There are also private buses which can be conveniently booked in other tourist-oriented places in Bangkok. But the public buses from the Northern Bus Terminal are generally more reliable.

For further details call the Northern Bus Terminal, 0 2936 2852 to 66 or 0 2936 3666

Trains
Express and rapid trains leave for Chiang Mai from Hualamphong Station several times daily and the trip takes about 11-12 hours for express trains. It is highly recommended to reserve seats well in advance, especially for sleepers. During long holidays like Songkran and New Year, it is not uncommon to find that all the sleepers of all trains are already filled up two months beforehand.

For details, call
the State Railway of Thailand, 1690, 0 2223 7010, 0 2220 4444 (RSVN),
0 2220 4334, 0 2621 8701
or Chiang Mai Railway Station, 0 5324 2094, 0 5324 5363 to 4.

Bus & Train Timetable

Private Vehicle

Estimated travel time in a private car is around 7 to 8 hours.

Where do I stay ?

Being the main tourist attraction of the North, Chiang Mai has much more accommodations than other regional cities. In Chiang Mai town only, there are about 300 hotels and guesthouses, with the rates ranging widely from 200 baht for a simple room with fan to over 10,000 baht for a luxurious suite.

Street Walkers

Based on my last couple of visits to Chiang Mai, I found that some of the best talent around could be found in the way of streetwalkers on Loy Kroh Road. There are a number of discreet groups of freelancers, as you make your away along Loy Kroh Rd, past the Chiang Mai Entertainment Centre (the home of Marina Bar) and head away from the night markets in the direction of the old city. If you continue further along Loy Kroh Rd and turn left onto Khotchasarn Rd (once you've reached the Moat), there is another group in front of the D.K Book Centre. Supposedly this same group can be found in front of the Amora Thapae Hotel on Chaiyaphum Rd. Alternatively, if you turn right onto Khotchasarn Rd, and continue past Spotlight Agogo, you will often find some smaller numbers of freelancers. The people in Chiang Mai are the friendliest around, and this is also the case with the streetwalkers I've met. I'm not suggesting you don't take precautions, but in general terms they are a really nice bunch. A few of the Ladyboys I met on Loy Kroh Road had their own cars which I found interesting. Many of the streetwalkers will offer their services for around 500 Baht, and that's before you even attempt to negotiate. A short time for 300 to 400 Baht with a Chiang Mai streetwalker is not absurd.

There are plenty of short time hotels around, and the LB's know were they are located and will lead the way.

I met one streetwalker by the name of Beer aka May. (pictured below).
Was a real sweetheart, and have bumped into her a couple of times since, and she always remembers my name and says hello.

Spotted a few others that were more attractive than May, so there is certainly some scope to pick up someone decent.

The Peak

The Peak is a rock climbing wall in the heart of Chiang Mai's night Bazaar, located on Changklan Road. In the vicinity is a whole host of beer bars, one of which was called the "Shu Shu Bar", the place where I met a very cute LB (by Chiang Mai standards) named Jenny (pictured below).

Secrets (Gay Bar Area)
In this area are a number of gay bars however I have recently read that there is a bar in this group called Dragon King which is a ladyboy bar. Like I say, haven't had the opportunity to review/confirm first hand.

Simon Cabaret

The Simon Cabaret is another great option to hook up with some real sweet ladyboys. A few years ago I met the gorgeous Daisy there, and whilst she has now reportedly moved on, there is always new talent joining the group. The trick is to attend the second show, and during the photo session outside after the show has finished, you will have the opportunity to set something up for later in the evening. 8)

Marina Bar

The Marina Bar is located inside the Chiang Mai Entertainment Centre. This centre contains some thirty bars with pool tables, loud music and local girls. There is a Thai boxing exhibition at 8:30 - 9.00 pm and a ladyboy cabaret at 10.30 pm every night. Located at 96-98 Loi Kroh Road.

Suk Sabai - Ladyboy Massage

Suk Sabai
45/5 Sridonchai Rd.
Tel 089-9507826

Suk Sabai massage is located near the South East corner of the moat wall, same road as the one bordering Pantip Plaza at the end of Chang Klan Rd. The business is supposed to be owned by a former Casanova Ladyboy that financed the set-up with her savings from the Casanova days. Previously she had been known as Christina, and now she calls herself Tou. A two hour massage will set you back about 250 or 300 baht. Alot of money appears to have been spent setting up the massage studio, and it features a nice lobby and air conditioned massage area upstairs.

Juicy Bar - LB Friendly bar for a drink...

Read a report about the Juicy Bar and more importantly it's owner that goes by the name of Sakorn. Apparently Sakorn was once a LB himself, and is one of the smarter bar owners in Chiang Mai.
He knows where all the LB action is and his bar is ladyboy friendly.

The bar is popular with local farangs, and is a suitable place to take a freelancer for a drink before heading back to the hotel, etc..

The Juicy Bar is located at 7 Loy Kroh Road

Phone: O53 207 262 or 089 757 17 68

Interestingly, Marina from "Marina Bar" worked as a barmaid for Sakorn at a previous bar he'd owned.

Discos & Nightclubs

I haven't really explored any of these myself, as I never seem to have enough time ! However, I'm sure that some of these locations, if not all would be worth checking out if you are in town, and want to try something different.

Bubbles (mixed)
B/F Porn Ping Hotel, 46/48 Charoen Prathet Rd. Longest running popular disco in town. Up-to-date music, relaxed atmosphere, and reasonable drink prices. Usually full with a mixed crowd of Thais and foreigners.

Cha Lerm Krung Saung Sa Lung
2 Khanklong Chonprathan (off the canal road near the Phucome Hotel). A popular Thai music venue attracts the local in-crowd to its roomy and modern pavilion.

Mandalay
Near Tha Phae Gate. A very popular spot for local gays, despite the hefty cover charge for foreigners.

Spicy (mixed)
82 Chaiyaphun Rd (alongside the old city moat, opposite Somport Market), 053-234-860, 053-251-813. Formerly known as Nice Illusions. Live music. Small disco popular in the wee hours.

Excellent KK.
I will be there in January, but not in an official LB ambassador role, as you know.
Staying at Raming Lodge on Loy kroh Rd, just a few doors down from Juicy bar. I have heard the receptionist at Raming is an LB, I will at least be able to check this out and report back. Might also manage to slip away for a Suk Sabai massage. It would be nice to get an opportunity to suk something on what will otherwise be a family holiday.
When I were a lad we had the one thing that money can't buy....poverty

Koykaeng, who is the ladyboy in your last photo, on right, with leopard dress? I forget her name but remember meeting her in Hua Hin this year when she was on holiday.

When I first met her she was calling herself "Torn", however more recently she was using the name "Coco". She speaks very good English actually and is alot of fun to chat with whilst at Marina Bar.

Cheers
