Having been out for a ride together on the bike during the late afternoon we were hungry and looked for somewhere to feed, we chose the Gecko Cafe. The street level entrance led upstairs to the restaurant and there was plenty of balcony seating at this old colonial corner plot building, so far so good.
It must have been the name that appealed because nothing else did. The clientele were all Lonely Planet types on a mission to save the world and they chatted loudly to ensure anyone within earshot could hear it.
The food in the Gecko Cafe was no better. My burrito arrived with banana crisps which were awful so I moved them into a napkin for easy disposal. She only wanted a snack, but the chips (french fries) she ordered turned out to be the contents of a packet of crisps with ketchup, costing $2.50. A very easy decision to never eat at the Gecko Cafe ever again.
It's a shame when a meal is so appalling as it really takes the shine of an otherwise nice day. A little while later were sitting at the Keo Mony Guesthouse entrance with the staff and family where they'd shared their home made potato soup and grilled chicken with us, totally delicious and it cost nothing.
