Cambodia's second largest city and the capital city of Battambang province, northwestern Cambodia.
Battambang is pronounced bat-dam-bong by the Khmers ~ translation: bat (lost) dambong (stick)
With the tickets purchased and minimal bags packed yesterday I enjoyed a breakfast of beans on toast made for me, with extra cold toast to take on the journey (yum). Items in the fridge had been consumed leading up to this day and the freezer section was emptied and defrosted so we could power-down perhaps the most energy-hungry device in the apartment during our absence. The electricity meter stood at 3330.8, I took a photo of it just so I'd remember and could check it on our return.
I'm not entirely sure how much the tickets cost, but yesterday I got $75 in change from a $100 bill after she'd gone out to buy them, but that also included $10 for her little sister as she was going to Battambang too, but not on the same bus. I'm guessing they were $7 each.
It would soon be time to rendezvous with our 11:45am Phnom Penh Sorya Transport pick-up van from the Riverside corner of Street 106 (near the Night Market) to take us to the main bus station next to the Central Market for the big bus to Battambang. The pick-up point was conveniently close by so we just walked and the van was already waiting for us as we arrived several minutes early.
From what I remember we only made one short stop just outside Phnom Penh up route 5 before getting fully underway. Surprising how quickly the transportation and local flavour changes just outside the capital city.
