For those of you who intend to see the movie, I won't divulge any storyline details and ruin it for you.
Overall, I thought it was a good movie. Not exactly side-splitting, as I'd hoped, and I was aware that because it had been filmed in Thailand, that I might be building my hopes up excessively.
I had hoped to see a bit more footage of actual sites in and around Bangkok. There were lots of glimpses (street scenes, river scenes, short peeks at temples in the distance) of the city, but very little of what one might hope to see in Bangkok on a first-time visit. I realize it was not a travel documentary, so it's no big deal.
There was some good footage of some of the islands, and those were beautifully filmed, though brief. That footage gave my friends an idea of why i like going to the islands so much.
Also interesting was that a couple of scenes were filmed at the Sky-Bar at the top of Hotel Lebua. This place is spectacular, especially at night, and on my last visit I'd spent a couple of nights there with my Thai gg girlfriend-of-the-moment. (I saw a handsome couple in the bar there one night, very nicely dressed fellow with a spectacular ladyboy. Mental note to self: Do that. Next visit).
Not unexpectedly, a bona-fied ladyboy makes an appearance. She is a pretty good-looking gal, and in her scene she drops her clothes and reveals a great body adorned with a considerable cock. I'm curious as to whether anybody on this site actually knows who this ladyboy is.
As you can imagine, the encounter with the ladyboy is one of the best parts of the movie.
After the movie, not surprisingly, the ladyboy became the focus of conversation at the bar (several st8 mates and gg girlfriends in attendance). Knowing I am a Thailand fan, they asked "do you really see those 'trannies' there?".
I assured them that yes indeed, they were everywhere. One of my friends who'd been to Thailand agreed, and mentioned that they actually could be quite beautiful (quite an admission for a guy who is pretty homophobic for the most part).
Anyway, in my opinion, it's worth seeing. Not the comedy of the century as I'd hoped, but still pretty funny.
I'd give it 3 stars (out of 5).
