I'm fairly sure Walt was and is aware of what happens now, up to him and there's a few of us have been in his shoes after a great holiday in LoS.

I seem to remember our Jimbo previously warning us over such holiday romances...

Good to see them enjoying themselves though as usual life and reality has a habit of kicking in.

The beers here were 200Bt ! The barfine before 12 was 1,000 BT, and 700 after 12 !!

I remember when there were no barfines. Then one trip I was asked to pay 100 baht. That was only the start, next it was 200 baht.

Now we see 500 & 600 baht barfines everywhere. 1000 baht has been reported several times over the years, usually for holidays like Xmas & New Year.

If the Thai barowners think they can get away with it, they will all want 1000 baht all of the time. They never stop trying to get more from the farang.

They don't get the concept of killing the golden goose. 1000 baht barfines are not inevitable IMO, too many visitors are feeling financial pressure back in Farangland that more of them will fight back & go around the bars.

But it is so typical that the Thais try it on. At least Jimbo gets it. Good staff, good service, fair prices.

There is a whole thread about this in the general section - bars do not want their top drawer hostess staff to leave on a barfine as they are the eye candy who bring IN customers to drink. In a nutshell that is why barfines are high and why salaries for these 'stunners' have (especially in GG bars) shot up to record highs. Take out the stunners and nobody goes into bars and drinks.

This is nothing more than market forces determining the models that are being applied. In much the same way as at a motor show in Bangkok - its the stands that have the sexiest models that get the most photographs taken and published in the national (thai) press. How else do you think Proton as an example, are going to get press coverage - a stunning, sexy dressed GG draped over the bonnet is all they need. Take away the models from the stand and nobody would give the cars a second glance. Probably one of the best bars to understand this is Atlantic bar in Pattaya - 50% of their staff will NOT go with customers - however they are all drop dead gorgeous. They are there to provide eye candy and get paid 12,000b month basic salaries + drink commissions. They are earning 25,000b each and every month as they draw in so many customers who drink and buy drinks.

Now that is surely very widely remarked.....been there many times and seldom do I see a real honey.
I've never witnessed any of the models featured in their glossy advertisments actually working there

But have you seen the stock in the other bar beers recently? - Atalantic is still head and shoulders above all the others - I go in there a lot and it is always busy anytime of the night - simple formula, well priced beer and totty, works everytime. The bars adjacent to it are totally devoid of customers yet this one has typically 20-50 customers everytime I go in.
