A monthly hotel rate will be about the same as 14 days.
Your flight cost is fixed.
The "extra" days don"t have to be expensive.

I would extend your trip to as much vacation time as u can get.

If finances are an issue then forget about Amsterdam. Put thatmoney towards Thailand.
If money is tight, then you want one trip that will be memorable. So go for as many days as you can possibly get off from work, the extra days can be cheap ones, for example, your room can be as cheap as 10 or 15 quid a night.
The flight is your big expense. Make the most of it.

Eat Thai food, usually a savings over western food or make your own food from the grocery store
Take the baht bus if you don't have a motorbike, or walk
Go to Naglua or Jomtien, cheaper than bars in Pattaya proper
Try thai friendly or thai Cupid, may even get a date for no fee
If you are there for an extended period of time, take days off from seeking companionship, see the sights
Join a gym, an expat club, volunteer,
By the way, if you developed a relationship, ask if you can pay less, be honest, Ladyboys are often quite intelligent

It really makes me wonder prices dont seem to have increased for about a decade......not talking
about the possibily of devaluation of the home currencies of some of us visitors...
I found the store prices for alcohol pretty high, same as the price of tobacco products....

I'm in BKK right now (May 2018) and here is my 2 cents:
(Note: All these prices are based on the current best exchange rate of 31.5 Bht per 1 USD.)
A trip to Thailand can cost over $10,000 or less than $2700...depends entirely on U and your habits.
Do U fly Business class or Coach...5 Star Hotels or is 2-3 Stars OK?
Restaurants every night or Street Food?
Taxis or Mass Transit...or walking:)
My small apartment in Lad Prao neighborhood is $185 per month.
Utilities run another $75...(run my A/C all day and night!)
Street food and beer costs me $8-$10 each day.
So that's around $550 per month for the basics.
If I take the subway to Nana...that's $2.75 each way.
Then whatever happens typically costs $100 more...LB drinks, bar fine,ST room and a ST ladyboy...
Or...I can just arrange a "date" with somebody on TF for $60 and stay in Lad Prao.
I usually buy a 60 day Visa from the Thai Consulate in Chicago before I leave...$40.
If I have the time I get a 30 day extention on the visa once I'm in Thailand....$57-$70 depending...
The street food will spoil U with unreal prices and flavor!
Even a middle of the road "sit-down" restaurant can run U $12-$15 per person with beers and entrees...VERY expensive compared to the street vendors!!
And if U want to go upscale...$30 and up per person is quite common.
Sooooooooooo...U can see from my personal experience that Thailand can be done quite cheaply or on a "sky's the limit" basis.
As they say in Thailand:
"Up to You"...Enjoy:)
