i do not mind the english team, but it is the fucking media down south that makes most scots want to see them get beat.
i mean ffs the first two games, they were dreadful, now they beat a mediocre team 1-0 it is 1966 all over again and they are world beaters.
germany will be no problem, they are not a great team, well take a long hard look at yourselves
just wish the media down south, would for once take off those fucking rose tinted glasses.

The media is it's own animal, I don't get the bitterness or angst towards a nation for it's media. :loco: But those are your issues, not mine.

No one was under any illusions here, everyone I spoke to knows England have been piss poor, they have actually been slated in the press too, to the extent it was blown out of all proportion - and that is part of the problem, we are either the worst team on the planet, or favourites to win the cup. But we take the media here (the written press especailly) with a pinch of salt, the absurdity of the football stories it is all part of the fun, it's not a war, I'd suggest you do the same and don't take it so personally, Hoff.

Re: todays game, I'd disagree with those Irsish blokes, I thought we played very well first 15-20 mins and OK for the rest of the game, with occassional decent passages of play. We defended well throughout and created enough chances to score 3 or 4. And Hesky coming on to hold the ball up and close teh game out was a good move IMO, going for a second goal thta late when we were already going through and comfortable at the back would have been suicide.

I actually enjoy the BBC punditry, they might not be as harsh as the old gents in that clip but most of us make our own opinions from the games we watch and that's part of the fun of the world cup, getting drunk and sharing football opinions down the pub after the game, but it's nice to be fed a bit of BBC optimism when you're trying to enjoy the football!

..ITV, Andy Townsend et al I can happily go without.

agree with you there kliome, listening to mr townsend is like watching paint dry the movie.
kliome, the media up here gets on ma tits as well, when rangers and celtic do well in europe (which by the way is very few and far between) they are great, the youth scheme is working, the old firm is good for scottish football blah blah blah.
but when they get beat, there are fundamental deep lieing issues with scottish football, the old firm are fucking up the scottish game ect.
so on both sides of the border the sporting aspects of the media really fucking annoy me.
and joking asides, good luck for the germany game.

The national broadcaster here, RTE have comedy sketches during the coverage of the WC, called Apres Match. Mostly they are an Irish theme, and would not mean much to anyone outside the country. However some feature more familiar faces.

I told you Sev7en, Italy never looked like getting out of that group after their first performance.

But how they finished bottom of the group (probably the only group easier than Engalnd's), is amazing. It's been a very strange world cup.

I feel sorry for New Zealand, they didn't lose a game and still just missed out on qualification.. The Kiwi's hsould be proud.

In comparison, England's campaign doesn't seem so bad.

... and Slovakia won against Italy. Italy goes home almost as the French! WONDERFUL!!! (I am born Slovak and naturalized French).

 The world cup died today. The soul of football lays in Italy.
