FATAL CONFRONTATION: WHAT POSSESSED MR. BLOCH TO COMMIT SUCH A VIOLENT MURDER?

The situation and facts surrounding the recent murder of a German bar owner remain somewhat unclear with many reports of different natures appearing in the local media. The PDN team has managed to obtain two exclusive interviews with, Mr Bloch (the murderer) and an eye witness, who was present at the time of fatal stabbing. In this feature we attempt to uncover what possessed Mr. Bloch to commit such a violent act.

The German bar owner Mr. Peter Alfons Schroth was stabbed 7 times by a fellow countryman and supposed friend, Mr. Timo Bloch. Mr. Bloch was under the influence of an illegal drug and had subsequently worked himself into a manic rage following an argument with Mr. Schroth. The following is an overview of the interviews that PDN have managed to obtain in regards to the events.

Eye Witness Account

Mr. X (name withheld on request) has been a friend of both the victim Mr. Schroth and the suspect Mr. Bloch for several years, regularly coming to Pattaya and boarding upstairs in the "Kanya Romantic Garden Restaurant." PDN managed to obtain an exclusive interview with Mr. X the morning after the murder occurred; here is his statement of events.

Mr. X explained to PDN that he had known Mr. Bloch for 2 years although they had never really been close friends. Mr. X revealed that he had only recently returned to Pattaya and was shocked to see Mr. Bloch’s significant weight loss, which he believed was a result of constant drug abuse. He had seen Mr. Bloch regularly using the internet facilities available inside the "Kanya Restaurant" over the past month, explaining that he had also witnessed Mr. Schroth and Mr. Bloch arguing on several occasions. He did not know what they were arguing about but explained that it never went any further than a verbal dispute.

Mr. X has admitted to having had a drink with the murderer Mr Bloch earlier in the afternoon, on the day of the murder. He informed PDN that there had been no conversation regarding Mr Schroth or a planned confrontation. Also stating that when he and Mr. Bloch departed company he did not appear drunk or on drugs.

When questioning Mr. X in regards to the murder of Mr. Schroth he explained that he and another man Mr. Z had witnessed an argument between the murderer and Mr Schroth but did not understand what it had been about. He stated that both he and Mr. Z (the other witness) approached the pair with the intent on calming the situation, however; it was at that point that Mr. Bloch produced two knives and violently announced, "who wants to be the first to die?" Mr. X said that he was the first to be approached by Mr. Bloch at which point he retreated out of harms way, whilst Mr. Z picked up a wooden log from the garden to use in self defence if Mr Bloch decided to attack him. Mr. X then stated that Mr Schroth managed to successfully disarm one knife from Mr. Bloch’s grasp however he was subsequently stabbed 7 times by Mr. Bloch using the other knife. Mr. X then informed PDN that he fled the scene to the bar across the road, stating that he fearing for his own safety, at which point Mr. Bloch escaped.

Before he was able to escape the scene he was almost knocked off his motorbike by a passing local who responded to the cries for assistance coming from the various staff of the Kanya Restaurant. The murder weapon and his helmet were left behind in his rush to flee the scene.

Murderers Confession

On the morning of the 4th of December at approximately 11:30am after the re-enactment of events was complete, PDN staff went to the police station to interview the murderer. On arrival Mr. Bloch was seen to be sitting on the floor of his cell having had nothing to eat or drink since his arrest at 11:30pm the previous night.

On approaching Mr. Bloch’s cell it was a surprising to see that he did not appear to be traumatized or distressed in anyway over the previous night’s events, or for that matter his current predicament. In return for an interview and as a show of good faith PDN purchased for Mr. Bloch some food, water and a packet of cigarettes.

The following is a dialogue of the interview that our PDN reporter conducted with Mr. Bloch;

PDN Reporter: What is the reason behind what you have last night?
Mr. Bloch: It was fate, you cannot control fate. I am not scared of people I only worry about fate. I had taken one Yabba tablet 10 minutes before I went to see Peter and do not understand why I killed him, I was not myself. It was the drug.

PDN Reporter: We understand that you had been friends with Mr. Schroth, how long had you known him?
Mr. Bloch: I have known him for around 3 years and recently designed and built a website for him.

PDN Reporter: I have heard that you had been receiving help and support or money from Mr. Schroth, is that correct?
Mr. Bloch: No, no I did not receive money from him. He owes me money for the website that is why I went to see him. He owes many people money. I needed the money so that I could go to Koh Larn on Saturday. I finished building the website before the Saturday so that I could get the money to go to Koh Larn.

PDN Reporter: Did you plan the attack on Mr. Schroth?
Mr. Bloch: No I did not plan, but I knew before I went there that the result of asking for his money would be an argument as it had happened many times before.

PDN Reporter: So why did you take the knives in if you did not intend to murder someone?
Mr. Bloch: I always carry knives around with me for self-defence. I did not plan to murder Peter it must have been the drug, all the drug. I got so angry when he refused to pay me and told me not to go to Koh Larn, so I stabbed him several times because of the drugs.

PDN Reporter: How long have you been using drugs?
Mr. Bloch: I have been taking Yabba for 1 year, but I can control the drug. Last night I could not control it. I was not myself. I don’t know who I was!

PDN Reporter: Do you have a lawyer? Have you contacted the German Embassy?
Mr. Bloch: No I have no lawyer and have not talked to the embassy.

PDN Reporter: Have you spoken to your parents?
Mr. Bloch: Yes, I contacted my mother a few days ago.

PDN Reporter: But you have not talked to them since last night?
Mr. Bloch: No I have not

PDN Reporter: You have got yourself into a very bad situation seemingly because of drugs is there anything you would like to say in regards to drugs, that may help others avoid a similar situation?
Mr Bloch: I think the best drug is "Ganja," the others make you feel good but can make you crazy and they are not good. (Interview Finishes)

Mr Bloch will now remain in his cell at the police station until his court day arrives and he is sentenced. As the murder looks increasingly like it was pre-meditated, Mr. Bloch is looking at a very lengthy stay in a Thai prison with little hope of being deported back to Germany if he does not organise for a solicitor to represent him or contact the German Embassy.

NOTE: We have provided you (reader) with a these interviews in an attempt to shed some light on this confusing murder. By providing you with these exclusive interviews we are in no way insinuating that either sequence of events is accurate or correct we merely wish to provide you - our readers - with more information surrounding the fatal confrontation that occurred on the 3rd of December.

Drug convict Gregory deported from Thailand

Sandra Gregory had gone back to Thailand to "tie up loose ends"

Sandra Gregory, the Briton jailed in Thailand in the 1990s for drug smuggling, has been deported after trying to enter the country.
She was pardoned by the King of Thailand in 2000 after initially being sentenced to death in 1993.
The 44-year-old, of West Yorkshire, had texted friends to say she was refused entry to Thailand, despite having a valid visa.
It is understood the Thai authorities have put her on a plane to Qatar.

'Bangkok Hilton'

Gregory, of Sowerby Bridge, was caught with 86.9g of heroin inside a condom in her body at Bangkok airport in 1993.
The initial death sentence was commuted to 25 years imprisonment after she admitted the charge.
She spent four-and-a-half years in the notorious Klong Prem Prison - nicknamed the Bangkok Hilton - where she had been held in a room with 80 other women, before being transferred to a jail in Kent.
After receiving the royal pardon, she went on to gain a 2:1 honours degree in geography from Oxford University.
Friends said Gregory had gone back to Thailand to "tie up loose ends".
This, she told them, included donating money to the prison where she was held, the homeless and a nursery.
Friend Susan May said: "She said she loves the country despite everything that happened, and she deeply regretted what she did.
"She wanted to go back to visit friends she made in the jail and lay some ghosts to rest."

BAR GIRL USES HER BREASTS TO DRUG & ROB RUSSIAN NATIONAL

A Russian national has been robbed by a Thai bar girl at his Hotel room in Pattaya. The robbery occurred after the woman allegedly put some form of sleeping drug in the foreigner’s beer and on her breasts.

Pattaya, the 7th of December 2009 [PDN]: Police Lieutenant Colonel Anan Thammachaikul (Pattaya police investigator), received a report at approximately 8:30am that a foreigner had been drugged with some form of sleeping drug at his room in the Jomtien Orchid Hotel on the Theppraya Road, Pattaya. A team of police officers along with medical staff from the Pattaya Memorial Hospital went to the scene to investigate.

Police discovered the victim asleep in his 3rd floor room at the Jomtien Orchid Hotel. The man was lying on the bed naked, holding a pillow. Officers attempted to wake him but ultimately he was too sedated at the present time. The medical team decided it was best to transport him to the hospital where they could monitor and treat him until he has recovered.

Police searched the room and found that the foreign man was Mr. Vadim Martynin [26] a Russian national. It was evident from the state of the room that someone had searched through all Mr Martynin’s possessions; all the drawers and both doors to the wardrobe were left wide open. Officers found an empty beer bottle, a packet of cigarettes and a plastic bag, which had been used to cover someone’s head whilst they took a shower.

Officers later discovered that a camera, wrist watch, a gold wrist band and a certain amount of money had been stolen from the room by the bar girl. It is now known that Mr. Martynin went to South Pattaya - around the vicinity of Walking Street - the previous night. During the night he met a Thai girl who he decided took back to his room. She subsequently drugged him and stole all of his valuables. The woman is described to have a wide build, being 160-170 centimeters in height and between 25 and 30 years old, name is unknown.

The police have requested copies of the CCTV footage from the Hotel so that they can attempt to identify the woman before she commits a repeat offence.

That is just my signature for the book which I was advised to do, nothing to do with this thread.

As every other forum has a thread for these news stories, why not here on this forum? A one stop news thread, where not just me, but others can post news they come across....... a communal thread so to speak, just like on the other forums.

And as the thread was called 'big trouble in tourist Thailand', and originally only for the documentary, I thought it was appropriate to carry on the thread with these stories, as they are on the same theme. Saving the trouble on opening new threads all the time, when some one finds an interesting story to share with the rest of us, and having the threads all over the place no more than a page long. Eventually getting buried away after a week, and wasting space.

As the sources are vast ie; Bangkok Post, Pattaya mail, Pattaya People, Pattaya news, Pattaya One, BBC, Yahoo etc. etc. etc. Very few have the time to sift through all these, even if I did post every source. I think its short and sweet, black and white, right in front of your eyes, wile guys are browsing THIS forum.

As my favorite town is Pattaya, I watch out for only the stories that relates to 'misbehaving Farangs', and 'Farang victims', but other BM's who live or favor Bangkok, Phuket, or Chang Mai, could post from their local news media stories of the same nature, as the theme is Thailand not Pattaya. I thought the penny would have dropped by now, but it seems it didn't for a couple of you.

So if you think I am wasting my time, just say so, I will gladly stop as I got better things to do.

I think the content in this thread is totally appropriate. I only have a question on how it is delivered. On some other forums I browse usually the title and the first couple of sentences of the article are delivered. Or perhaps a paragraph on the really long ones then a link is posted to the article for those interested. Often if the link was not posted someone will post the link in a reply to the thread so one can go directly to the site. Many of these articles have pictures that accompany the article.

You do give the source credit but I assume they have their own web sites for a reason. In the case of PattayaOne they have ads, that IMO aren't terribly intrusive, on their site which I assume help pay the bills. But I must confess I don't actually know how they feel about whole articles being posted. But I know how I would feel. If you enjoy their site why not help them pay the bills?

IMO FWIW

I like the overall thread, but only interested in the stories that involve P4p LB's and customers for the most part. Stories with farangs are ok as well. The Thai on Thai crimes I would rather read about on the Pataya one site or BKK post.

It would provide a great service if only these (LB.farang, bargirl or Bar related stories. Its not hard to wade through the other stuff. It would just be better knowing the stories would be of interest to me before clicking on the thread.
