Monday Night

Much confusion in Patong over whether or not its a "Big Buddha" day. We opened as usual, but i could tell as soon as i entered Bangla Road that we were in for a quiet one. The average bin was rubbish too, 386 Bt as opposed to sunday's 686 Bt, indicating the place full of "Cheap Charlies".

So on a quiet night (maybe Big Buddha day) your low takings means customers are "cheap charlies"?

Maybe those cheap charlies thought they were your patrons and didn't realise their custom wasn't good enough. Perhaps some signage stating a minimum spend is in order.

Having met you I'm sure you didn't mean to put it the way you did exactly, but how it reads is not pretty and appears ungrateful :? No-one likes to be accused of being a cheap charlie.

Please say Sonya's tattoos are temporary, I hate them on the thighs :| especially when her legs are so nice.

Indeed, good call DC.

I'm surprised Jimbo even wrote

I would have thought plenty of bar owners in the current climate would appreciate average bins of 386 Baht and to call it rubbish with the prevailing exchange rates really  me

Imagine how guys in there on Monday night and reading that statement are going to feel. Also, perhaps others thinking of dropping by for a couple of beers are now going to think otherwise :o

Hey Jimbo, finally made it to the bar for the first time on Sunday night after my non-loving LB friend had to return home ill but never managed to meet you. Not to worry, had a great time with your staff who made me feel very welcome especially Pim/Pip and Emma. Pat is certainly a good pool player!

Hopefully, have a trip back in the coming months.

Yes, sorry to miss you Tpe69 - sunday is my usual day off - i have to give the long-suffering Mrs jimbo a little time ! Catch you next time.

Take it how you want DC and Pentire - 386 baht is very low, even during Low Season. And unfortunately there were no Bms there, as they always stop by for more the "a couple of beers". Exchange rates have obviously affected the number of visitors to Thailand, but as we trade in baht, this does not affect the average "bin".

I only made the comment to give an insight to the runnings of a bar. Maybe I'll keep that sort of information to myself in future.

Speaking for myself I will, but it appears you missed the point.

It's the way you referred to patrons who didn't spend enough (in your opinion) as "cheap charlies", it's unpleasant.

As I said before, if that's the case just put up a 'minimum spend' sign and save the disappointment.

Perhaps the Thai mentality of banking on smaller numbers of high payers instead of gratefully accepting a greater number of lesser spenders has seeped into your subconscious. Now that would be a shame.

Being in Los for 3 months, my average bin is around 400 i´d say. Can´t afford a 600 bin every night for that long period.

hmmm actually i like this kind of honesty.... it help me understand what the "figures" normally is.....

and like he wrote.....he was sad there was no BM`S around....and somehow it just confirm what i have been thinking.... 8)

IMHO...they got 3 kinds of costumers...

1) the "tousist"....normally couples that comes to see the show...spend only a few drinks...but some of those(especially the wifes) finds it funny and friendly...and stay and spend a little more than the average costumers like them...

2) the guys just comming to " make the pick up".....guys who dont like to be seen in a ladyboybar...proberly buys 1 beer...pick up a girl...and then leave.....

3) the BM`S... 8) well...we are the guys that LOVES to be in an LB bar....and dont mind to be seen there...because of that...we often stays longer as we are not afraid to make fun with the girls and to buy some drinks to them...so proberly...we spent lot more than "average joe"... 8)

so to blame jim for his post...is IMHO...a bit out of line.... hes just telling us how it is...and actually...i love to get information...it makes me help understand things..... 8)

so keep on Jim....

Don't panic Dixon (or Jimbo)..... Some of us do get it!

It's not cool to call people Cheap Charlies and Jimbo could've stated the poor takings without slighting some people who are without doubt innocent of the charge...... (and some who probably are not).....

Still tone of voice is something that gets missed in forum posts so lets not hang anyone for a statement made by a man trying to make money.... so he can run his bar.... so we can visit.... play with the girls.... spend money... and the wheel continues!

And anyway don't his regular photo updates make it all worth while! :-)

I'll leave it at that now as my intention was never to try and turn this into a problematic discussion and spoil Jim's C&D thread, so for me this subject is now closed.

I'm not playing sides, but I think you have to take more into account than the size of a bin.

If someone sits in your bar all night (4+ hours) and has a bin of 400bht, then he's probably taking the piss, but if you stop into a bar for a couple of drinks (say 45 mins), it's often just that, and even if you buy a lady drink it's quite normal for the bill to be around 300/400bht.

Personally, if I'm on a long stay I won't drink every night, so when I'm on a night off the juice I'll just drink soda and so on such a night I might buy a few lady drinks but my bill still wont be massive. But I like to think I make up for it on the nights when I do drink. I think that's the case for many of the BMs here, some times your bar bill is 1k ++ some times it's under 300, but you can't spend 300 + in every bar in every night.

With that in mind, I think Jim's original comments can be taken either way and a lot depends on circumstance. Jim is a good guy and I trust that knowing more about the people in the bar that night (how long they stayed, playing with the girls, taking photos etc..) maybe his comments would be better justified.

But I don't agree with Batman, I think it doesn't Pay to be honest when making such a generalization, especially on an open forum like this.
