The only truly amateur videos are those put up by people for fun and for free (as opposed to pirated from commercial sites or "teaser" clips). Most are absolutely awful in terms of video quality and the appearance of the models.
You are right and the real real amateur (vs. the appearing to be amateur) is not only of poor quality and lighting but it is difficult, if not even imposisble, to see anything.
it does not haev to be gyno footage, but seeing a couple moving in the dark and not really showing anything is crap.
One can notice that even the professional amateru always care for details such as camera angle, position of body parts to favour the lens (and the vision), hair not covering face or the action... little details making it something one can see
