I've lived here for 2 1/2 years now. I teach. The best thing I can say about it is I get a lot of time off and I don't spend the majority of my time working like I did in the States.

I live out in the country so many things are cheap, my rent is only 2,500 baht a month.

In a good month I can save 20-25 thousand baht. I made a lot of trips into BKK last year so I rarely saved that much though.

I wouldn't recommend the teaching route with a GF unless she is educated and dedicated to a good job. Otherwise she'll just end up being a money pit. They can't comprehend that you really don't shit money and that you really do make a 4th of what you did back home.

Ive holiday'd in thailand 7 times, my first stay was 4 months, my next one after that was 9 months, i worked about 4 im guesings of the last stays months of that second stay. being so broke as to have to stay in farangland in theese tuff economic times well as getting back into meditation im really looking forward to another prolonged stay there even if im only aligned with the niezche maxim ''blessed be moderate poverty'', and not so wealthy as some of you guys are during your wonderful trips, so if its more english work or that plus some yoga clients then thats what ill probally do very soon, true its diff once your there, for one its like everything it gets repititive if u dont mix it up, but overaul im taking there over here again real soon, boom is uniqe though, minimal alcohol and no media needed in the homespace n his is sabi sabi, ill count my blessings just fine as a adult male with health, girls, guys n ladyboys to diddle while i study the cosmic riddles.

brahmacharaya=living like gods, no stealing,abstinence
boomacharaya=living like atheist saints, robbing, abstinece for a few days or utill the price comes down or disapears completely

work is a ugly word, i think u kind of have to look at life as service n fullfillment, first u fullfill yourself then you serve others, kind of sucks that alot of the english schools do really suck though, the books i was giving to make lessons out of were like they just through a postie in front of me, fucking useless.

im looking for a new gig there , i have a few job aps out, im very tired of americana but have been for over ten years n its only getting worse, id actually rather serve thai people

Geez, looking at some of the recent pics in the threads, there could be a future selling Sharpies for the eyebrows!

Holy crap! An entire Boomdraw comment that I understand! Is my alcohol kicking in, or yours wearing off?

I'll be making the move to LOS in late March to see how it goes with the teaching gig. Not too worried about making money initially....breaking even will do...it's more about getting a foot in & seeing how it goes. Previous trip have been 3 mths & 6 weeks.

Been in the UK for 12 years & recently took VS....I've become somewhat disillusioned with the state of things herein London. Much the same as my homeland (Oz)....going back has a totally different perspective these days.

My biggest call in the next year will be...a condo & save on paying rent...or keep my money & rent whilst trying to get by on a 1st year teaching salary...altho' it'll be renting initially.

If it dosn't go to plan in Thailand....I'll be looking at Cambodia.

Good luck on all scores mate. :D

Renting till you're sure of the job & where it's located makes perfect sense. Though before buying I'd take into account that you might get fed up there too! 8)

Yeah, I'd only buy if it's in an area I feel confident of finding a return on rental should I move on.

i agree,
i think the guy took him over knowing it would fuck his head up and then film it while laughing at him.
bit naughty really.

Watched this the other day, was uncomfortable to watch at times. Was surprised he didn't take that guy up on his offer to sponsor his TEFL course.
