Thank you for this Dixon. I have never been to Phnom Penh but thanks to your terrific photo reportage, I have a real feel for the place.
And how confronting to have the Genocide Museum dedicated to the horrors of Pol Pot right in town. It must be awful for those who survived those dark days to have such a reminder in their midst. I can't begin to imagine the fear the population lived under.
Many thanks for your kind words pacman
I have so many pictures it's not easy trimming them down to just a selection, there are just so many to choose from. I took 15GB of pictures and video during my 4 months there last year.
Phnom Penh is a City with an extremely sad recent history (as is the whole country), but it is sheer delight for the camera. I never got tired of walking around, exploring and taking photos.
I visited Toul Sleng first back in 1999 and then again in 2011, which comes a month or two later in the TR. It hadn't changed all that much since my first visit apart from the map of Cambodia made from human skulls had been replaced by a large image of it instead, plus the coconut trees in the grounds had put on a bit of weight. I will show some comparison pictures when I eventually get around to reaching that point in my "Next Millenium" thread.
