Why make generalizations?

You may have the confidence and experience to drive your own route but give some people the flexibility. A newbie hitting Beach Road at 3am is not a good recommendation.

Likewise I would always advise someone to politely decline the first invitation, in a bar, for a drink.

The bars do provide, relatively, a safe haven. Some bars are more pushy than others but an average lady drink is only 100 to 150 baht. Gives a guy time to talk/chill with his selected target. From experience I have seen a stunner and invited her for a LD - to discover she speaks no English. Better to have bought 1 LD to find that out than take it home and use mime.

The bars provide a meeting point (not to experts like yourself) for a guy to feel his way through.

I met a bunch of Scots guys happily ringing the bell in a bar oblivious to the cost. We all make mistakes.

If we all avoid BF/LD and stop frequenting bars then you may as well go to some seedy soi and take your chance - odds are you will be the loser.

The LB chat sites are great but not much spontaneity in that.

We all have opinions and choices so perhaps a less dogmatic opinion would be more welcome. We all have a different style and temperament so ..........

my opinion is my opinion dogmatic or not, I have every right to hold that opinion, you lot want to all stick together fine, just because someone owns a bar or lives in a place dont make their opinion anymore valid than the next person.
Their opinion is usually based on vested interest ie their own pocket ,in which a bar tends to fill that pocket quickly especially at some of the over inflated charges for drinks and Barfines.
You happily wander along paying whatever you want to pay, I will do the same, my way , my trip, my money, my opinion. Just because I dont go down the same route as others dont mean my enjoyment is anyless.
I dont remember anyone mentioning going down dark Sois or Beach Road ,unless you call picking up birds in places like Central Festival or Walking St just that.
I have probably done more free lancers and non p4p birds than anything else over the years and never lost as much as a penny or a sock to them and many guys are the same.
I do go in some bars and do spend like buggery but on myself, I dont ring bells, dont go looking for free partys like some I can mention, I only go to a party if I am specifically asked by the person holding it, I buy the odd lady drink usually if I am playing pool or in the exception when I decide to have a quick role in a short time room
I aint no expert ,I know what I do and I know what I like, if that is not popular with some well its tough, like Kevin Bloody Wilson says

jeez its true the japs really have overrun obsessions.

I was in Wednesday night and the whole section opposite the entrance was Japanese except for me. I got to see a lot of the girls up close as many LDs were being bought. But still lots of LBs that didn't seem to be the favorites of the Japanese were making eye contact with me. Maybe better than all the attention I was getting before they arrived...

My, my this thread has run off in several different directions. :D I am mostly a bar type person but have picked up a few FL here and there over the years. I have been in a couple of countries where that was the only choice. Always good to take a stroll down the west side Beach Road every now and then to see what is available.

I saw a poll on a Pattaya GG board some months ago asking how many of the members had ever picked up a FL. Much to my surprise about 90-95 percent answered they had never picked up a FL. And this wasn't just a bunch of newbies. I personally found that high number very surprising.

"but the Thai bar owners fuck em they are all ass holes trying to rip you for every cent they can"

An asinine generalization.

This interminable banging on about barfines and bars is pointless - if you don't like bars and how they operate, don't drink in them. That avoids the bar fines issue too.
Hey, careful, man, there's a beverage here!

... and never lost as much as a penny or a sock to them

I've never lost a sock either, which is just as well since mine double as wallets and I keep my wallets on during ST visits. The downside is that the coins can work their way down under the arches of my feet, which can be uncomfortable, sometimes they drag a few notes with them too.

I visited Pearl Harbor back in 1999, yet I've always liked Obsession. Let bygones be bygones.

By the way, my opinion over-rules the opinion of all others

Hound of the Baskervilles

"he met the hound that had been trained by Stapleton and covered with phosphorus to give it an unearthly appearance. Sir Charles ran for his life, but then had the fatal heart attack which killed him. Since dogs do not eat or bite dead bodies, it left him there untouched"

Well at least you only bite the living....

Nobody is suggesting that you should change your lifestyle but perhaps how you choose to portray that lifestyle. Have tolerance for others who may not ascribe to your personal endeavors and attitudes.

You obviously care about the 'penny in your pocket' and act accordingly. That is entirely up to you. However to tarnish all bars with your opinion is not justified.

A bar pays overheads to provide a venue for us to enjoy. Many of us do enjoy, as customers, the venue that they provide. they are not all blood (baht) sucking monsters. The authorities do not make bar ownership any easier, nor profitable. There are many aspects to Pattaya bar operations you are blissfully ignorant of. If anyone is blood sucking it is the authorities.

They make money, regularly, from a bar operating correctly and then jump in and fine them for the most minor transgression. So a bar closes and the staff go freelancing - yet another opportunity for the blood to be sucked. In March last year they took 150 'people' off Beach Road - all fined.

Personally I enjoy an LB bar where I may sit and enjoy the eye candy and then choose how I progress - maybe I buy a LD and maybe I don't. Maybe I bar fine and maybe I don't. Up to me.

In return I think it unfair to tarnish all the bars just because that is not your personal preference.

Just accept that it is your opinion and then, as such, is open to ridicule by someone else's opinion.

My comment was at the grandiose generalization concerning bars - a trifle unfair - in my humble opinion.

It takes a more experienced monger to venture into a mall/Soi/beauty salon to make a play.

We all have opinions - some choose to be more light hearted in their expression of those opinions.

Glad you enjoyed your vacation and congratulations in finding a 'diamond in the rough'. I am sure she turned heads at the pool - striking LB.
