I was in pattaya before and noticed it was not like BKK where most of the action was in the same area. so in pattaya u realld do need to have transport.
the way i got around in pattaya the last time i was there was moterbike taxi.
but i see many people talking about how they use the baht bus to get around.
how does this work, are there buss stops that tell u where the bus will go too, or do u request the driver to go to a specific location as you wold do with a taxi ?
how much does the bus cost ?
thanks in advance.

How They Work: When you see one coming down the road in the direction you want to go, just wave or something and he’ll stop long enough for you to hop on the back. Sometimes if you’re standing there or just walking along they’ll slow down to see if you want a ride. Once you’re on, just ride along until you get where you want to go and hit the buzzer (you’ll see little buttons on the roof or the side poles—even if you don’t hear anything, they buzz up by the driver). He’ll pull over where it’s convenient. Hop out, go over to the passenger door and hand him 10 Baht through the window. It’s good to carry around some coins. Although I had no problems getting change, some have said the driver might claim he has none.
Where They Go: They mostly go in loops, but sometimes they branch off. They travel South on Beach road where they stop at Walking Street. I have seen, during the day, some of them going down Walking Street to the Pier at the other end, but those might be specifically hired. Usually, at Walking Street, they turn East (away from the water) and to up South Pattaya Road to 2nd Road. There, they mostly turn and go North on 2nd Road. Some of them may turn South. Some of them may continue East and go North on Buakow (the N/S road half way between 2nd Road and 3rd Road). If you want to be sure you’re going the direction you want, wait for a bus beyond the intersection where it’s already going your direction.
The ones that go North on 2nd Road mostly go all the way to the Dolphin roundabout at the North end of Pattaya. Most will turn South and go back down Beach Road (the loop). Some of them continue North.
Baht Busses go both North and South on Buakow. The ones going South turn West on South Pattaya Road and stop at 2nd Road. Just ahead and to the left is Walking Street. Some of these turn North on 2nd Road, some go South. If you don’t want to get off here, wait for the turn and, if it’s the wrong way, hit the buzzer and get off. Walk across the intersection and wait for one going your direction. Since Buakow kind of peters out in the North direction, I’m not sure exactly where they turn around up North. But some go down Pattaya Klang and turn north and you can get of at soi 6 thers go down to beach road I think. Having stayed at the Liquid Lounge on soi Buakow I just walked out and could get one either way at any time during the day and no more than a couple of minutes at night.

Btw, there are also baht busses that work Pattaya Tai, Pattaya Klang, Pattaya Nua, over the hill to Jomtien, and Naklua. And there are white busses that work Sukhumvit.
10 baht and pay in exact change.

One thing to note which I only learned recently is if you look along the bottom of the bus if it has 2 white stripes along the bottom edge it is working the Jomtien circuit.
I just did a bit of searching to see if there was a way to identify the other routes and it seems that asking the driver is the only way to tell. Even then they can be unpredictable and turn off where ever want without warning, even if this happens and you don't get to where you want to go the price is still 10Baht.
Stickman Bangkok has an article on Baht buses worth reading.

I was wandering along 3rd Rd from Pattaya Klang to Pattaya Tai and not one came along even though I counted 13 heading the other way. Took me 15 mins to walk it in the end.
Go figure.

Yesterday afternoon I went to Jomtien. I prefer not to wait inside the parked baht busses at the corner of Pattaya Tai and instead hail one further along the line so I am not cramped like a sardine.
After, I got on three other guys got on with a Thai girl. When they got off, they had the girl ask how much and the driver said 80 baht or 20 baht a person.
I have taken the baht bus to Jomtien hundreds of times and never paid more than 10 baht and never had an arguement.
Moral of the story, don't ask how much, pay 10 baht and the driver will let u know if there is a problem.
Baht bus from the bus station down Pattaya Nua and along Beach Road is 20baht.
I do see Thais talk to the driver, for example inquiring if the baht bus is going to Naklua or doing the basic loop.
