Was in Vientiane in march and picked up an LB from Samlor bar
Took her back to the loom much to the horror of the night porter

Got a lecture on the hotel policy on guests which seemingly I should have read.
No guests allowed back in room whether male or female
I also heard that hotels are required to log details of locals visiting.

She suggested we try a guest house as they dont seem to bother to much about the rules.
Found a guest house and had no issues at all booking room for the night.

did you explain that your guest was in fact of the third gender and thus not covered by the existing prohibitions?

Thanks for the input. It seems that there isn't a clear cut answer. Me thinks it isn't worth taking the risk and a visit to Laos shall remain shaggless for now :wnkr:

didnt quite put it as that but did inform him that all 3 of us were the same same but to no avail.
She tried batting her eyelids and turning on the charm but still no

Only same sex during the day and has to be registered with authorities

Thats why we headed to guest house, they dont follow regs like the hotels do.

On my next journey to Disneyland I might make a visit to the hometown of a lady I've met in Pattaya. Nothing special about that if the village wasn't North of the Mekong, in Laos.

Apparently Laotian nationals are not allowed to stay in the same room with foreigners of the opposite sex, unless they are married under Laotian family law. :tantrum:

How does it work with ladyboys? Can I stay in a hotel in Vientiane with the ladyboy whose village I am visiting without being worried about breaking Laotian family law? Has anyone had any experience staying with a Laotian national in the same room in Laos? Did anyone encounter any problems? Should I stay away from 'the village'? If yes, why?

sorry Email no answer to your question, but I stayed last year with my thai lb in Ventiane ,same room, facing no problem at all..

BTW I arrived at the hotel with voucher I paid for at Nonkay before crossing the border just to hear "you've been robbeb..no reservation for you here.." . So I had to pay again at reception.

However I would think they're not so strict overthere,as long as you pay when you check-in..

good luck !

cheers :D
