When I stay in BKK for business I always use the Sofitel Silom
(formerly Monarch Lee Gardens) . It is located on Silom Road near to the business district, handy for the sky train, and only about a ten minute walk from Patpong. Rooms start around 2500thb . Great hotel and facilities for the price.

Century Park Hotel http://www.centuryparkhotel.com/
At the far end of Ratchaprarop. Close to Victory Monument and next to the Din Daeng Expressway intersection, so very easy access.
Modern and quite spacious rooms.
If you want more class and are willing to pay for it, Pathuamwan Princess http://pprincess.com/Default.aspx is very nice, but you pay for the location (next to MBK) and the ambiance. The foyer and restaurant(s) are very nice.
Try the usual sites for best rates.
Both hotels are not monger friendly!
