Yes this is the first time I have taken the canon 450D and have been very pleased with the results.

Yes, the mirror plus the lighting fools the electronic system of the camera. I have also many photos with the mirror behind which came out totally underexposed. Maybe switching to manual would help.Ok lets see a few of the cabarets. These are not easy to photograph because of the lighting and large mirror behind so I post a few to give you a flavour of what you have been missing

So far I have only really used the camera on Automatic. Whilst I think I understand the technicalities of manual use I need to take some time out to practice

Thanks Redeye. I know how it feels, venturing away from automatic setting is like leaving the comfort zone and exploring. Don't be afraid to turn the camera sideways also and zoom to get "wow" portrait shots. With your camera that should not be a problem.
