I was so frustrated after the experience with Bee that I went to Big

Prologue

but prefer a telegraphic style. Moreover, English is not my mother

Etihad proposed a bargain price (less than 400 euro) for the flight
Paris-Bangkok through Abu Dhabi, hence I took the opportunity already
last May, fully in my LOS blues, to buy these heavily discounted plane
tickets. I can tell you that once these tickets bought, the LOS blues
went away almost immediately and I was counting the days until my next
trip to Thailand.

It was my first trip on Etihad. The company is fairly new, only three
years old, they have new planes and the service is good. It seems that
they want to become a serious challenger to Emirates. However,
Emirates is a better company so far, especially because of their ICE
entertainment system, as well as for the possibility to get an upgrade
to the business class for relatively small amount of miles. Anyway,
the food is not that bad on Etihad and the drinks are more than OK. On
every leg of my trip I had a Balantines on the rocks to start with,
red wine to accompany the food (food was average), and finally I had a
Cointreau as a digestive.

The stopover in Abu Dhabi was fairly short, only 90 minutes. It was
only enough to get of the first airplane, go through the security
check, RUN to the other gate, where the boarding begun just 10 minutes
after my arrival. There was a longer stopover during the flight back,
some 2 hours, which allowed me to do some dutyfree shopping. It seems
that dutyfree is cheaper at Abu Dhabi airport than in Dubai, but Dubai
is more upscale.

Arrival in Bangkok early in the morning 4 September on time. Many
French were on the plane, taking advantage of the bargain price. The
older with whole families, the younger with girlfriends. I just wonder
why these guys are traveling to LOS with girlfriends. I mean, it is
worse than bringing wood into a forest, or bringing owls to Athens.

A long queue formed in front of the immigration boots, but this time
the Thai immigration officers worked well and the queue went fast. I
found already my luggage turning on the belt, hence no time lost
there. There is now a BIG transparent box before you pass customs,
with a poster saying you are allowed to import only nnn
cigarettes. The box contained several cartons, dropped by
tourists. Since I am a non-smoker, I did not care at all. Your luggage
is then scanned just right after you pass customs. The scanner is
visible from the hall before you pass customs, so you will be caught
only if you are totally stupid.

After passing customs I went to the taxi stand on the arrival
level. YES, I am willing to pay the 50 baht more. At least, I have
this way the insurance that the taxi driver will switch on the meter
immediately and I will not have an argument with him about it. 50 baht
is 1 euro, so it is ridiculous to discuss whether to pay it or
not. Moreover, most of the taxi drivers do not speak English, or only
a very rudimentary one, so it might be difficult to indicate them the
hotel where you want to go. Even worse, some seem not wanting to
understand and they bring you to a hotel of their choice, hoping for a
bakchich from the hotel owner. Therefore the help of the airport taxi
service person who understands English and serves as an intermediate
between you and the taxi driver is worth the 50 baht.

There was no queue an I have got the taxi immediately. An older guy
knowing well how to get to Sukhumvit and avoid the traffic jam
there. He just turned into Soi 1, went then through the entry of
Bumrungrad hospital, arrived at Soi 3, crossed Sukhumvit, passed the
