Well I hope you dont refer to we from the Mother Country as "Brits" then

P.S. My ex g/f has called me a Buffalo a few times

You'll find a lot of Japan-hosted internet forums automatically censor 'Japs' and 'Nips', while Brits, Poms, Yanks, Seppos and even Pakis are ignored.

Of course JAP can also be a Jewish-American Princess!

37 years in Asia, 35 years with the 3rd sex.

When you take your last breath, don't be thinking, "I wish I had....." It'll be too late then!

I think it becomes insulting when it is used to describe you, in an environment where you should be known by your name.

For example, John may have lived in a village in Issan for many years and be well know by the locals, but instead of saying John was in the shop earlier, they will say the farang was here earlier. It maintains the them and us barrier you sense when you spend time in Los.

it happens here in the uk, whilst in england you get called a jock, when i am back home my local shop is run by pakistanis, i call the shop the pakis, if i were racist i would not shop there. it is also the same when going for a chinese, i say going to the chinkies, i know it is not pc, but i am not being racist.

I don't think the word Farang is quite the same. It certainly doesn't refer to a minority group. It's not as derogative as Chinky, Jock, Paki etc.. It can be used innocently in the right context.
