i have been to pattaya 18 times in 7 years, and i have always hired a moped, i have never had an accident, touch wood! as i find if you do not speed around like a lunatic and watch what you are doing you will be ok, if you did have the ufortunate situation of having a bump with someone, the problem would usually be forgotten by some brown notes, also if the police stop you( i am bad for this) going in a street the wrong way or not wearing your helmet, rather than go to the police station in soi 9 just give the police man 300 baht and he will let you off. so if you want to hire a moped i can recommend the chap that i have always used, he does not ask for my passport, and for 1 week only charges 1000 baht for a 100cc automatic which is ok for what you will need in patts any thing else is a death trap, also the bigger bikes are harder to move in and out of traffic than the smaller bikes, which in pattaya to me is the most impportant point of hiring a small 100cc automatic is that you never get stuck in the sometimes horrendous traffic, you will only get him during the day on beach road outside just before soi8 at world wide a gogo, and the bikes that he hires out are of a high standard and are quite new, and i have never had any problems berfore.
