income wise, you know what i wish- I wish i could be like one of those people on ebay who sell a whole bunch of stuff. I see a lot of them, their foreigners living in thailand selling stuff. This one guy, hes german, and hes selling thai amulets, he ships them all over the world. This other guy sells insect specimens, jewelry, etc.

I wonder how much money they make...

but man that would be the life.

I dont think id ever get tired of it...

We all dream BUT you must be realistic. Do your maths and always look at the "Worst Case Scenario" - that way you can fulfill your dream and not experience a nightmare...

I am more than happy to assist guys in their planning but it is hard work if you want it to work. PM me if you need help but be prepared for a thorough investigation.

I hope to move to Thailand full time in 5 years

once I pay for my mortgage then I can move

financial security is the main reason i dont move to thailand now. I should be able to get some work in thailand given my profession but the pay will be less then my current pay so I need to have no debt before the jump.

I agree with Brit there are many things to consider. The biggest issue to overcome is that you now live there 365 days a year not just the 2 week get hammered and shagged holiday. This 2 week holiday we enjoy is not sustainable 365 days a year.

If im wrong about getting hammered and shagging 365 days a year can someone share the secret with your fellow forum members.

enjoy
pela is no more. a necessary name change to prevent wife turning me into a post op

if u think the thrill of easy ass all the time doesnt loose something or the relization of the inhumanity of the whole sex trade and its effects on the girls isnt doesnt sour u over time as well as the fact that u cant converse with a general population with only a six grade education on anything even remotely interesting then maybe living in thai is for you, im actually bored stiff with thai bullshite and expats who want to be greng jai and sabai sabai around a bunch of whores who view them as atms only, but aside from all this, if you have some good western friends and can find some peace and not be a drunk soi dog just waiting to get aids or the clap or herpes then its can be quite nice- but it defineatley gets old, all the girls blend into one, i mean face it, they all share the same brain anyways, all have brown eyes with dark hair and worhsip blinking moblie phones and cant talk about anywere in the world but thailand-and when u leave for a while and come back u see how fast n how bad they age, its shocking---its a good thing that it gets old, not a bad thing- it just to bad that some of u fat old pink skin white dudes didnt get a chance to get it out of your system when you were younger when u still had a chance of being a normal middle aged fuhc....so viva la thailand and all the whores, your resturant working girls(aka whores), your internet girls(part time whores).. your school girls who like pink white people(after school whores) and your out of school never worked bar but still a whore(whores) ........trust me your just an atm...which if you know and dont mind can make the place quite enjoyable like i said.................xoxos

Well us guys all get burned by women - one way or another - whether they be wives or whores.

As I have said many times before a marriage is like a phone contract - you cannot make changes - if you do the penalty clause is invoked - Divorce - now that is expensive!

P4P is good fun and there is a difference between living here 365 and coming on a vacation of 2/3 weeks.

Living here can be brilliant BUT I would not choose to live in Pattaya Town center. You will burn out quickly and become cynical.

I live outside of Pattaya and visit town 2 or 3 times a week. That is enough. When I visit town I am either there to eat with friends, meet some BM's or go on a prowl - just so I am kept to up to date and can then update the forum.

I know many foreigners living here - many with their Western wives. They enjoy a good lifestyle, stay in touch with family/friends, who are pleased to visit. There are many activities to enjoy due to a kinder climate. Sailing, Golf, Water sports, sightseeing. You do not need to live in bars and BF every single night

IMHO most guys who visit, on holiday, spend the majority of their time in the town, and the bars, and with GG's/LB's BUT that is a holiday.

For those considering moving here, on a more permanent basis, I would advise using your time here to meet other Western residents and learn from them.

I have a wealth of resident Westerners that I enjoy a BBQ with, or a drink in one of the out of town bars. The Brazilian Grand Prix was on last weekend. One of our favorite out of town bars stayed open and screened the race for about 12 of us - terrific night out and not one P4P person in attendance.

Sure the P4P scene can get boring and we all get jaded with 'over exposure' BUT to then judge Thailand from that experience is to judge the US from Disneyland - and that is one place I have had enough of.

To quote from Birnbaum's guide to the Disney Parks "That Mouse will get your Dollar".

So Disney is there to get your dollar too. I prefer a ride in Pattaya to a Roller Coaster manned by a mouse!!

Thanks for sharing your own personal experiences Rossco.
Of course you're right, anyone contemplating a full time move to LOS has to realise it won't be like the 2 week holiday. I think you have to ask yourself if Thailand did not have the most beautiful and attainable LB's and GG's would I still be attracted to living there. If the answer is no, well that should ring alarm bells.
My wife and I are planning to make the move to Chiang Mai in about three years, that's if the Superannuation fund regains the losses of the last 12 months.
We have been visiting LOS for along time, she has business there and I am on the verge of finalising some ongoing business, export from Thailand to Australia.
If our plans come to fruition we will spend about 8 months of the year in Thailand, 2 months in the UK and 2 months in Australia (we have kids in each country) Our hope is that we can get a modest income from the business's, enough to finance a reasonable lifestyle. We will keep our house in Australia and rent it out. We will rent a house in Thailand for the first year or two and depending on how the lifestyle suits us we may then buy a place.
I guess we are talking about a semi retirement situation (I will be 59 in three years) Yes I know the whole visa situation is quite complex regarding retirement and earning money from a business, I have had initial discussions with Sunbelt Asia and I'm confident we will find the way to do everything above board.
So I see my life in Thailand as working some hours every day, learning the language every day and doing some service/volunteer work. We will certainly make the effort to make friends within the ex pat community and hopefully expand our friendships with our Thai business partners.
LB's are my favourite fantasy, but my wife is my real world love. I certainly intend to make time for the fantasy, my business dealings are in BKK hers mainly in Chiang Mai.But the fantasy is not the sole or even main reason, well nearly the main reason :D for wanting to live in Thailand.
The way I see it, i have nothing to lose. I spent the first half of my life in England, the second half in Australia. I'm looking forward to the "third half" in Thailand. If it doesn't work out well Australia is still a great place to live.
When I were a lad we had the one thing that money can't buy....poverty
