I never take my ID out of safe, as if u loose your passport u r in big trouble!

I lock my passport in the safe as well, but ALWAYS have a copy of it on my person. One never knows when one might need it!! Besides, having a nicely tri-folded photocopy of your passport isn't a bad place to stash that extra 1000baht bill!! 8) (whoops, the secret is out of the bag now)

I don't know of many hunters who carry a photocopy of their passport around with them, and I've been lazy over the years and stopped doing it, but there may come a time when that photocopy could save you a lot of time and trouble. So, it's a good reminder to keep such a photocopy on at all time whilst out and about in LOS.

I always hide a credit card and a few thousand baht in my bag or a piece of clothing, just in case of an emergency. and nearly always end up forgetting about it, and either putting it through the wash (not good :( ) or coming across it some months later (good! :) )

I think this is a superb idea and a technique passed on to me a few years ago that I follow religiously. I'd rather be confronted by authorities with at least some documentation on board, but also be able to relax without worrying about losing my passport when I might be separated from my pants.

One thought... has anyone been denied entry to a club or other venue that required a passport by only showing a photocopy? What comes to mind is RCA; only been there once to walkabout the neighborhood, but I recall pretty much all the clubs, i.e. Route 66, etc., had a sign out front about showing passport. Or, is this merely to fend off the teenagers; those of us a bit more mature (35+) might not be given a second look?

I would'nt think a 35+ year old would have trouble getting into a club unless they thought you were too old :P (I'm 46  )
I've only been carrying my Police issued gun License as it is a photo ID but as its about to expire I think I will copy my passport instead.
