i picked up yet another stomach bug in thailand, more antibiotics.
apparently its from dirty water.
people are quick to tell me dont have ice in your drinks.
i always assumed the ice was bought in by bars pre-packed.?
does anyone know if this is the case, or each bar makes there own from tap water.?

One "morning" at about 5 p.m. having breakfast with Paula, we were sitting near street. We happend to see how some guys were packing ice -apperently for drinks- from truck to a bar... suddenly a sack felt down and break. They collect some ice and put it into the broken sack again and went on....
I dont know much about hygiene, but have a look yourself: (before sack fall down!)

Good spot.

Unfortunately I fear this is a very tame example compared to what probably goes on in some of the kictchens in Thailand

I think food from a busy Pattaya street vendor is better than what most of us eat in the West. Fresh trumps processed IMHO.

For drinking water at my humble abode in Patts, I use the filtered water machines that cost one baht per liter.

When I’m in Thailand I drink like 3-4 liter of Coke Zero a day or occasional beer but never anything with real sugar or even some natural juices. It maybe is unhealthy for long term but in Thailand until now it always kept me away from troubles.
Although… on this trip I had no problems in Isaan where I eat food from local vendors but as soon as I went with Lisa to Nana Soi 4 Mc Donald’s few minutes after I got food poisoning from some outdated French fries.

A couple of trips back I got sick and was spewing liquid from both ends for about 3 days after eating tom yam goong at the kiss restaurant across from soi 13. Though I know this could probably happen anywhere I avoid that place now. Still can't eat tom yam goong. :D

it does not sound like it was the tam yam gung m8, i had something similar back home, just sounds like you caught a bug, 3 days or pure torture, then as soon as it comes it goes.

Yes bacteria from food would be considered a bug.
