Okay, that sounds like a good idea.  I really appreciate you guys sticking with me and helping me out here.  I think I may even ask to chat with the mamasan of where ever I go too.  That is a good idea as well?

 

That is no easy answer to that question.  A good mama-san is worth her weight in gold and can make or break a business. The question then becomes, how do you know if she is a good mama-san?  Read the reviews and hope you are a good judge of character.

 

If you are new to the bar scene and are looking for a particular type of girl, it is a good idea to buy the mama-san a drink and get her suggestions. So you won't be disappointed, don't be afraid to ask the mama-san or the girls for exactly what you want. You won't embarrass them. They have heard it all before.

 

However, some of the mama-san are lying, thieving scum, so be careful. If a mama-san brings you a girl (unsolicited by you) and basically tries to force her on you, there is a good chance she is acting as a pimp and will take part of whatever you pay the girl.  As any transaction between you and the girl is, supposedly, between just you and the girl, the mama-san is breaking the law by involving herself, and therefore, the bar, in the transaction.  It goes on and on. How some places get away with having rooms on the premises is another question. Apparently it is just a matter of how much "tea money" is changing hands.  :-)

 

There was a bar down on walking street. Very popular about 5 or 6 years ago. I can't remember the name, but it was in a complex with 4 other bars just off the corner of Soi 16.  I know one of the bars in the complex was called "Catz." I think this place was upstairs......  the name just doesn't come to me, but the mama-san and "her" girls stole the owners blind and put them out of business. That they were stealing themselves out of a job at the same time probably never occurred to them.

 

That is an extreme example, but, personally, once I had a few trips under my belt and learned most of the scams, I avoided doing business with any mama-san unless I knew for certain she had the girls' best interest at heart, not solely her own.

If you have a hard time saying no then perhaps you should skip both Obsessions and Stringfellows. Neither are on the low pressure end of the scale. Obsession is IMO a bit worse. Everything is a lot more expensive at Obsessions**.

I am beginning to get the same impression of the place.  I am pretty sure now that I will stick with Stringfellow's, LaBamba and, possibly, Baby Boom.  Again, thank you very much for the advice.  It is very much appreciated.  I hope to be able to repay the favor some day.

I think it's fair to say the ladyboy scene in Pattaya doesn't revolve around any one bar, or even any small collection of bars, Unlike Bangkok where the 4 Nana Gogo bars are at the centre of the ladyboy universe, or Phuket which heavily revolves around Bangla and C&Ds, Pattaya is itself one giant ladyboy resort.

 

I know ladyboy mongers who come to Pattaya 1-2 months at a time and barely set foot in any of the ladyboy bars, and they get as much action as anyone, while some guys have a favourite 1 or 2 bars and make base-camp there. Ladyboys are simply everywhere in Pattaya and there is no need to limit yourself or make assumptions on which venues are for you before you arrive - nor should you limit yourself just to ladyboy venues.

 

My advice would be to spend your time seeing as much of what Pattaya has to offer as you can, paying a visit to all the ladyboy bars you can, as well as going  'off piste' and trying out several beer bar complexes and other venues, as well as experiencing the nightly carnival that is Walking Street (and even a few of the discos - Marine/Nab/etc).

 

Everywhere has it's own vibe, good nights and not so good nights. Meeting ladyboys is by no means an issue, you'll be overwhelmed with ladyboy coming at you from all angles (literally!). You may love the sleazy vibe of a gogo, or the full on attention you get from some of the busier LB bars, OR you may find you have so many numbers and dates lined up after 24 hours, what you are really looking for is a nice chill spot or a perch on walking street to watch action. You really won't know until you get there and experience as much of Pattaya as you can.
