"Phuket taxi cartel grants US Military safe passage." Were they actually thinking of not allowing it? Using the word "safe" implies they would take some violent means to stop it. Only in Thailand.

What happened a while back was a blockade at the port. Was finally resolved when the taxi drivers 'allowed' the officers (who get paid more!) to use the free mini buses, whilst the troops had to pay B2000 a trip to Patong. Welcome to the Land of Smiles!!
