As I was advised from my design department latest version of Media Player should solve any possible problems with videos, howerver I will ask one of the other members with MAC to download the video and see if he has similar problems. I hope we will have the final answer by tomorrow night.

Hi Seiger1

LB-69 has asked me to look into this for you, i am currently running a MAC with Tiger 10.4.

I have checked all the movies on the site and they do play using the latest version of Windows Media player for MAC. Other programmes such as Quicktime, VLC and Mplayer do not play the files.

Let me know what version of mac you are using and I will run some tests for you, but if you are on 10.3 or later you should be able to use the above mentioned programme (Windows Media Player for MAC).

Try getting the lastest version from http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/ or directly from the Windows website (I advise the version tracker site as it is much more user friendly...strange that huh?).

Another thing to do is to make sure you have the latest codecs installed on your MAC. this should already be done for you if you have been doing your MAC updates but if you are running an older version of MAC OS you may need to download these from the Codec sites.

Write back to me and let me know what system your on and I will assist you more with this.

Spitfire

Hi Sieger1

Are you downloading the mivies to your hard drive before trying to watch? if not you need to do this first. It sounds like you are actually trying to play the movies directly from the web page rather than downloading them...unfortunitly you can do this with an AVI file playing through Quicktime or VLC but you cannot do this with Windows Media Player...

To do this take the mouse over the movie file name (on the left hand column of the movies page) and press the ctrl key on your keyboard and click the mouse button whilst holding the ctrl button down on your keyboard, this acts like the right hand button on a PC mouse. Then simply select the "download file" option, select where you want the file to be saved to on your Hard Drive and vola! it should download perfectly. you will know it's downloading as the download window will appear and should show you the speed at which the file is coming in. (this works for both Safari and for Firefox)

if you try to click on the link directly from the webpage you may be experiencing a glitch that is in the window media player (how strange...windows having a glitch huh!?). This glitch will be telling you that the file is being downloaded when it is actually not, I think this might be a hang over from the orignal windows based media player the the Mac version was designed from. it is supposed to be able to do streaming video online but it actually does not...a bit technical but I think it is to do with the buffer and cache having a conflict, and the fact that Microsoft has not done an updated player for the Mac for over 3 years...typical?

Another issue that you coould be having is that you have not linked the WMV files to play directly in Windows Media Player and they may be trying to open in another player, therefore causing the programme to stall. if this is the case you need to simply move your mouse over the WMV file on your desktop (once the file has downloaded) that you want to play and hold down the ctrl button and click your mouse (same as before), this will open up another dropdown menu. select the "get info" tab. this will bring up the full file information for you. At the bottom of the window you have just opened will be a box that says "Open With". click on the drop down bar located in this area and select Windows Media Player" and then click on the box below it that says "Change All", this will now change all the WMV files on your computer to play in Windows Media Player and resolve the conflict.

you should now be able to open all the WMV's on your computer by simply double clicking on the file directly.

let me know if this works, otherwise give me more details and I will try to resolve for you.

:-)
