Want to book my first trip to LOS for May 19th-28th. The Buddhist holiday of Vesak, celebrating the birth, elightenment and entry into nirvana of the Buddha falls on May 17th of this year. Research tells me that this holiday could last for a long weekend.
My question is how this holiday could affect my trip? Will things shut down for a week with people going home for this holiday or is the only thing I have to worry about is a ban on selling liquor for the day/week? Thanks

Its possible we'll be prevented from selling alcohol for one day, but we shan't know for sure until the day before: TIT ! :tantrum:
But not worth worrying about - maximum will be 1 day.

A lot of bar owners last year in Pattaya just shut the doors and had a lock in and most international hotels took no notice whatsoever, I was in Siam Bayview last year for the holiday and spent the whole day beside the pool merry and boozing away and on another one went on a road trip

Unlike some I can easily manage one day without alcohol, so it makes no odds to me at all.

Don't worry about it or let it alter your plans.

I don't think I've ever been there for Visakha Bucha but have been for a number of Makha Bucha days. As already mentioned usually a one day bar closure for many bars with lots of restaurants, etc still serving.

Worst I ever saw was the first round of elections after the last coup. The bars were closed in Pattaya two days in a row on two consecutive weekends. :ang3: And the BiB were serious about the closure. It was two weekends in December if I remember correctly. A case of really, really bad timing.

Yes indeed brother DC many better things to do .

Sometimes I despair at the youth on these forums wasting their money on strong drink and cigarettes :loco:
