My taxi driver told me that a new airport is going to be built between Bangkok and Pattaya next year. He also reckoned that Don Muang was then going to be shut down. Is that right?

Correct. The new Bangkok Airport is already about 6 months behind schedule but operations shall commence in 2006 with the closure of Don Muang which shall become a military base.
The new Airport shall knock at least 45 minutes off transfers to Pattaya.

The taxi driver thought the old airport was shutting down but wasn't quite sure. I've never been to Pattaya, maybe I'll give it a go next time.
