Any ideas on hotels etc? Obviously, not looking for LB scene, but nice hotels, things to do, and a relaxing time. All I know is that it's only about 2-3 hours from Bangkok, and will involve a ferry crossing.
I do understand, it aint all that far from Pattaya, so any of you Patt's regulars been?
Thanks.

Koh Samed is not far from Pattaya problem is that most of mini busses don’t go on highway but over some village roads so it takes you like forever to get there.
BR
p.s.
Last time I could go to Koh Samed with Ezy girls (Lita invited me last day I was saying goodbye to X for about 4 hours straight

Slight exaggeration there dear chap :o .....A two hour van ride from your Pattaya hotel reception followed by a 60 minute boat trip and you are there.
Plenty of places to stay on Samet FB in various standards of comfort. It's been a few years since I was last there however, after three nights boredom has you dreaming about Pattaya night life again
As I recall, my chosen accomodation was at Malibu resort and that was ok without being anything special.
The beach at sunrise and sunset is heaven on earth

You were lucky, as I wrote in my first TR, first they forgot to pick me up; they were 4 hours late, then we went through some shitty local road to some cheap 7/11 clone to buy groceries then we went to home of first driver, he left us and second driver changed him then we missed last ferry to Saikaew Villa but they put me on another one which landed on totally opposite beach (they forgot to tell me this little detail) I had to rent pickup... started at 1030, came to hotel at I think 1900. But it was fun.

Did you ask your agent for some compensation to cover those extra travelling expenses
Three-four hours (absolute maximum) door to door is the usual length of this journey including waiting time at the port.

The travel agency was on Walking Street (the one near north entrance ) I asked them about it (really, just for fun I had lots of time and nowhere to go  ) nice old lady told me I can get my money back if I chose other agency, no problem.

I've spent quite a few weekends in Samet, my longest trip was actually for a two weeks a couple of years ago. I've tried a few of the beaches on the Island, my favorite has always been Vongduern, its got plenty of place to eat and plenty of bars and some night life.
For LB or GG entertainment you'll really need to take your own. (There are a couple of bars where its possible to meet a lady for the evening but they really have to like you, not really P4P just subsidizing themselves.)
There is a disco within walking distance of the Vongduern but its not always great and the locals can actually be a problem. Most often I have taken GG's with me, although on one trip I had a sexy LB and no problems at all. As PT says the sunrise/sunsets are amazing, I almost always stay at the Malibu its just easier and less hassle but there are cheaper rooms next to it such as the seahorse hotel. All accomadations are bungalows, the biggest issue on the cheap places is the water comes from underground sulpher springs which if not filtered stink the place up. Was trying to save money one trip stayed in one of the cheap places and never felt clean the whole trip.
I took a GF there in the New Year for 5 nights, total costs when I arranged car from Pattaya, private speed boat, deluxe room, return speed boat and taxi to BKK airport was 15k. (Arranged with the Malibu agent in Pattaya.) From Dynasty Pattaya to the Malibu took about 2hrs 20mins. (The speedboat makes it so much easier as its only then a 10minute trip.) and no floating on a barge to tranfer you to the beach.
One thing to note there are limited ATM's and often they dont even work so its always better to take cash with you, I really like the place especially when I want to get away for 3 nights or so to simply relax, the beachs are great and everyone tends to be nice and layed back.
In high season V beach is popular with a number of tour companys that operate charter flights from the Nordic Countries so getting accomadation at places such as Malibu can be hard.
Well hope that helps, its possible to do a round trip with minibus service and ferry for 900 baht Per Person and then get a room for 950baht. (There is a 2-300baht charge for park fee entrance as the island is a national park and I cannot remember if its included in the minibus charge.) or you can go with private car, speed boat and I know one beach with bungalows and private pools that run 20k per night!

It takes about 90 minutes to get from Pattaya to the ferry at Ban Phe. Don't buy ferry tickets in Pattaya as there are a few different ferrys. The main one is 50 baht.
If you're going for the first time with a ladyboy, I would recommend Sai Kaew Beach. I would also recommend upscale lodging for a 2-3 night honeymoon trip and I tend to be a cheap charlie sucking down 20 baht beers at the minimart.
The Deluxe Cottages (not the Superior Rooms) at the Sai Kaew Beach Resort (not Sai Kaew Villa) is my strong recommendation for the first timer traveling with a ladyboy or Thai girl. They have there own ferry which is a couple minutes walk from the main ferry and free. Best rates are thru Agoda.
If you go alone then go for cheap housing and you might a ladyboy at the Silversands outdoor disco after midnight.
My favorite restaurant in the world is Ploy Talay on Sai Kaew Beach (there's a restaurant with an almost identical name next door but Ploy Samed is the crowded one). Had some great meals there with boardmembers and their ladyboy girlfriends.
Tell your girl not to pack high heels; she'll have no use whatsoever for them.
Lots of beachy things to do. You can also rent a motobike to explore the dirt roads on the island.
Have fun!
