Interesting... So the benefits are no bank fees by not using your own bank's visa if you transfer money online to your thai bank. I'm sure their is a small % fee for that too. cant think of any other benefits?

Obviously if you are a newbie or occasional visitor having a Thai account is not so practical, but if you are a long stayer or regular visitor there are plenty of benefits to having a Thai bank account.

One would be transferring money over to your account from your home country when you are happy with the exchange rate rather than gambling on the rate once you are there (the current situation being a good example).

Card replacement - I've lost my bank card twice (and I've often had to call my UK bank to have my card unblocked when in LOS). and it's a nightmare/almost impossible to get a replacement card sent out - in both cases I had to resort to the VISA cards. Having a Thai account means any problems or lost cards can be dealt with in branch immediately.
