Hi guys. Hey, i need a little help - i need to call gf from a UK sim card phone (showing the +44 code) as i am supposed to be in the uk right now , but am actually mongering in Patts (see Field Report). I shall be in La Bamba tomorrow night (Friday 14th) if you can help me - obviously i will reimburse the cost (and buy you a beer!). It would get me out of a potentially shitty situation.

I know one way but not a phone call but text message, probably wont help you much.. But i use texthq.com and whenever i send a message to someone without saving a phone # in my profile it comes from a 44 number.

Not so easy to emulate that. But you can call her from a mobile with thai sim and deactivate the "show number option". Tell her you call with a phone card. If you call via a calling card it never shows your number.

At least she will not see that you are in Thailand.

Also, just as an aside...

I have been caught out before by simply having my mobile phone switched ON when in Thailand when I was supposed to be in the UK, so get another SIM card for 'excursions' or keep your phone turned OFF.

I gave some bullshit excuse to an LB that I'd lost it and the driver of the Nana Hotel limo [to the airport] found it on the back seat and they emailed me to tell me they would keep it for me until I returned next time.
What a load of bollocks! - I got caught out and deservedly so with that cock & bull story :o

When you use those cheap internet numbers to call thailand from the UK it usually shows a Thai number when you call. I just tell them I'm in England using an internet number, (which is true) and they buy it, no questions asked.

I think they can hear it in your voice when you lie..

If you can just borrow someones UK mobile you can call or text her fomr that, and just tell her it's your mates mobile. It should show up a UK number but would pbviously be a bit on the pricey side. It's jsut a case of finding someone who'll let you use their phone.

Sorry Jimbo not in town else I could have helped, I take my Laptop with me and I use MSN and Skype, with the MSN service I subscribe to a London # and Skype with a US, so when I make calls from them the number displayed is either US or UK.

Worked pretty well last year when I spent the extended trip there on keeping costs down for calls and hiding my location.

Thanks guys for the tips. I`m gonna get a mate in the uk to send a text. Hope it keeps the suspicions at bay, but you know what they`re like! If you smell manure from the Phuket direction, you know its the shit hitting the fan in my apartment. Let you know how i get on when i get home on weds/thurs !
