Apart from the Russian chater flights, the only places you can fly to from there are Phuket and Samui via Bangkok Airways.

Pattaya airport is at Utapao near Satahip and it's a Thai air force establishment.
Apart from the Russian chater flights, the only places you can fly to from there are Phuket and Samui via Bangkok Airways.
You could fly from Hat Yai to Phuket on Nok Air for around 1500 Baht, then continue to Utapao on Bangkok Airways using current promotional fare for 2420 Baht (including all taxes).
Hat Yai to Pattaya for 3920 Baht !

Hello all, I had to get around to posting sometime :-).With the location of the new airport I make you right Kliome, but are'nt some domestic flights now going into Don Muang?
I think only Thai Air moved most of there domestic flights back to Don Muang.
[OOPs, I see NokAir is also at Don Muang so I blew that one]
I have flown from Phuket to U-Tapao, with a change of planes in Samui, once on Bangkok Air. As I recall it was a 44 seat prop plane and the over head rack wasn't big enough to hold a full size carry on. But it was an OK flight.
With the location of the new BKK airport it isn't a lot farther from BKK than U-Tapao to Pattaya. It will cost 800-1000B to get a taxi back to Pattaya from U-Tapao. About the same price as getting to Pattaya from BKK if you set up a ride from the Pattaya end.
You can get a flight on AirAsia.com from Phuket to BKK for around 1000 baht and up. I plan to do this in a few weeks instead of going the Bangkok Air route to U-Tapao. It's about as easy to go via BKK and somewhat cheaper IMO.
Just checked the AirAsia web site and you can fly direct from Hat Yai (HDY) to BKK on AirAsia for around 1000B and up. So that is probably the best choice. Just beware AirAsia is a low cost carrier so read their restrictions. I think you are limited to one checked bag that is 15kg or less (plus carry ons) and all flights are open seating.
